    videos on my page

Just to experiment, i wanted to insert a video via windows media player onto a blank page to learn how to do it and get a feel for it. I downloaded a trailer of a random thing and double-clicked onto the windows media player box, the menu opened, i clicked the browse file button, i selected the trailer, hit ok. Hit preview page. and the file doesn't show. I get this, "You must download the plugin" box at the top. So i click on that, then it tells me unknown plugin for x-ms video. It does that for every single video or trailer i put into the windows media player box. I am able to play videos through windows media player just fine, including the exact ones i put into the box via Blue Voda, so im not understanding why this is happening. I tried both Firefox and Internet Explorer. My computer is up to date, my software is up to date.

Re: I can't get videos to work in my page

Try this. (Just to test the waters, though... A good concept)

    Open new Page
    Click ActiveX from left toolbar.
Scroll all the way down, you will find 2 Windows Media Players.
    Click the top one.
Move it to position on page, size it. (Not too big, say a quarter page).
It will turn into a WMP.

    Go into Properties.
Bring in your video through browser.
    Go to top-bar imitation web-viewer.
When page opens, there will be a line on top, asking about ActiveX.
    Click Yes to everything.
Yor video should be playing now.
(If it doesn't you'll have to check the formats of your videos, etc.)
    Name page, save, publish.
Only you can watch this video.
For the public to see, it will take a little more complicated procedure including your c-panel.

Ok, i did that and it works, one problem though. It works in Internet Explorer but not in Firefox. I use Firefox primarily and theres a dozen other browsers out there and if people come to my site and can't view the video thats going to tarnish my site. Can a blue voda guru tell me how i can make this work please?

        Yeh, you need Brass...
And then, downloading self-standing Flash players, which is a pain in the behinds. But, if done right, it will solve the problem.
I went through this, too, actually have two of those on my site but they need work. I'll try locating my original thread - and the instructions within.
(If good new advice doesn't arrive in time, that is).

One more note. If "Youtube" is Ok for you, it's easy to embed and works like a charm.

            Gabor,

Can you elaborate on the complicated procedure having to do with c-panel? I'm having the same problem, I figured out the active X part myself but wasn't understanding why it would only show on my computer.

            Thanks

Re: I can't get videos to work in my page

              Hi,

              It's been a while...

In order for the public to view your video, it first has to be uploaded to your root directory (public_html in c-panel).
Then the video file will be streaming from your web directory and not from your harddisk - which is not accible to viewers.

Then you're gonna run into all kinds of pest little problems (file types, download time etc.)
After having experimented with the options, I concluded that only two ways are worthwile pursuing. One is to install self-standing (flash-type) players (and I can't help you with this), the other, for which I opted for is to embed Youtube. It's fairly easy to do and works lika a charm and everybody can see it.
It starts by creating a Youtube account and upload your video there (two birds with one stone...) this is easy, too. Then you will add that youtube element to your page.
If you want to go this route, let me know, I'll feed you the details.
(There's a tutorial about the bacics of "How to Youtube...")

                  Hi Toni,

The best way is the Forum, so that anybody can benefit.

                  1. Create an account in Youtube. This is a must. (www.youtube.com - create new account). It's very easy.
                  2. What shape/form/file-format are your videos in? May have to prepare them, although utube accepts a wide range of formats. Advice: make them short - I say 5-8 minutes tops, or shorter. If you need converting, I'll give you a link.

At this point get back to me.

                  3. You will upload your videos to Youtube - easy.
                  4. We'll create a Youtube-page in BV - done.

                    .
                    > You do not need to create a YouTube account to upload videos into your Blue Voda created webpage, nor is accessing your Control Panel required or even advisable! Where does this stuff come from anyway????
It is a simple linking process that is easy to learn on your own.

The process is easily demonstrated in the Tutorial, and there is no need to rely on others no matter how "well-intentioned"!

                      Hail to the Chief!

Thank you, Vasili, alway a pleasure.

My (mis)understanding was, if you want to feature a video of your own through Youtube.

Also, I meant to upload to cPanel only if you wanted to use some other player (Flash WMP, standalone, etc.). Which only works acceptably if your file is very small. My own video plays perfectly by the above process direct from Youtube. My music plays from music files in my cPanel. Is there something amiss here?

My apologies if I -unintentionally - mislead...

With a little creativity you can add video to your page and even have it look and act like YouTube. Example
