Favicon

How can I add a favicon to my web page.
I have tried to do it based on one of the online features creating the favicon.ico file and uploaded it to the public_html and added the html to the head sgement by nothing changed.

Could anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

Is this the html you are using?
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico">
The name of your favicon is "favicon.ico" ??
You are adding the html to your index page?
