    uploading audio files

    My domain name is EmmanuelFRC.org
I am working on setting up a subdomain for our church that includes audio messages. I would like to upload 18 messages to start with. I don't want them to play automatically. Instead I want the viewer to click on it either to download it or to listen to it on the website.

How do I do this? Do I simply insert the audio files onto the page and then publish it?

    Thanks!

    Re: uploading audio files

Upload the audio files to your server via FTP, then plcae a link to the file on your site

    e.g. http://www.emmanuelFRC.org/nameoffile.mp3

Then put a message next to it saying 'To download audio file right click and choose 'save target as'

OR.. they can just click the link and the file will download.

Where do I upload the file on the server - the public folder? Or is there a separate folder for files like this?

If it is your only or your main website then just upload to your public_html folder.

Here's how I did it... Look at all the links down the right of the page

Thanks - that is helpful. The only remaining question I have is that these messages will go on an add-on domain. WHat folder do I put them in?

if it's an addon then put the files inside the addon folder that's inside the public_html folder

I can get the file uploaded now. Viewers can also download it. I would also like to give people the additional option of being able to listen to the file on the site without having to download it. Do I need to install some kind of media player to handle this? I don't want it to spool automatically, because there are 18 audio messages to choose from.

Only the first one in the list is a live link right now, since I am still trying to figure it out. The language is Punjabi, so it should look like different script rather than gibberish in English letters.

                    Re: uploading audio files

I can get to that page. The first link points to

                    www.truepathtogod.org/JesusTheOnlyPathToGod.mp3

But the link doesn't work. This link does:

                    www.truepathtogod.org/Audio/1-JesusTheOnlyPathToGod.mp3

I'm listening to the opening music now--very nice. I had to download the mp3, took a few minutes as expected.

I strongly suggest you start to troubleshoot the link problems by changing everything to lowercase letters and no hyphens. These tend to confuse things.

How can I have people clink on and listen to the audio on the page without having to download the file? Is there some kind of media player I need to put on the site, and link to somehow?

yes you can insert the music file in the windows media player icon that is part of your toolbar inside blue voda ..

When you insert the music player, untick start file autostart, then browse on your computer for the music file and publish ...

Just a thought, but if you are having 18 music files, you might instead opt to insert a music player on an individual page for each of your songs .. you could create one main page with the links to each, and users could click on each link and the player for each individual song would open on their own ...
(your link could say, listen to this song here - then link to the song - the song will open with their default music player)
