    sped up background

hi there, probably nothing the pros didnt already know, or probably an easier faster way, but i i didnt know, and maybe someone can use this that didnt/doesnt know.

i origianlly made my background myself,

it was big, 1000x1000, increased page weight to 2min34secs(56kbps)

then i thought it is mostly a repeated image, so a chopped a piece out,
27x1000, and letting the auto tiling do the rest.

now my page wieght has dropped back down to 34secs. yay.

i havent done this for a while, so mods, please delete this if it is a silly and unhelpful.

    thanks.

    Re: sped up background

Ideally, your page should load in less than 20secs(56kbps)
Potential customers will start leaving your site at 8+ secs unless they really want to see what you have.
There has to be a compromise between page load time and design. Or maybe your happy with the current design and want to leave it as it is.

oh ok, thanks very much for the advice, i can shave off 9 secs from the silly off text ad banner i have put in there and dont really need.

You guys probably already have thought of and use it. but what do you think of this idea? Some sites have that index page which has a welcome msg with an "enter site button" only on them. Could you place a few images or something hidden behind so they download quick in the next page? which is really your main home page.
