Silly Question But Need Answer

I am JUST beginning to build my website. My question is really basic:

WHAT SIZE SHOULD I MAKE MY PAGE? I mean, I look at pages all day long...but don't know how to size mine to fit someone's screen.

Hi Leeze!

NOT a silly question at all and if more people asked it at this stage they would save themselves a whole heap of trouble!!

You can have the page as long as you want to but the very best width to use is 800px wide. Then check the 'centre in browser' box in your page properties. This will ensure that your pages look good to all of your visitors however they have their screen resolution set.

A word of warning - when you are building your site some things will pop over the edge whilst you are placing them etc.. The very last thing to do before you save and publish is to check your page width setting, again (in page properties) and ensure that it is set to 800px. Then save and publish.

THANK YOU very much! I just kept looking at that empty page and could not help wonder what it would look like on the web, i.e. if it would fill the screen! Now I can continue my journey into this scary building business, heehee.
