    very new - please assist

    Hi!
I am totally as green as can be. I created and published 4 pages. I can only see my index page and I can't see any of the other pages if I click on the menu within my index(home page). I do not understand alot of the techie terminology so please be gentle on me. I only got my Welocme email today and my domain name. What now? Thanks in advance!

    Re: NEW and so confused!

hi - hang in there -- on your navigation buttons you have to put the URL of the page you want to go to i.e. http://www.thecatwhisperer8.com/thenameofyourpage.html change thenameofyourpage to whatever you SAVED the page as - you have to do this for each button - then republish all the pages dont forget any of the dots . or slashes / make sure you spell the page name exactally as you SAVED it we were all here once

Ann pointed out that you have not entered any values (links) for your buttons....they point to nothing, even though your page is published.
Please review this tutorial in detail for linking your pages properly: http://www.vodahost.com/vodatalk/hyp...mages-etc.html

          Cat Whisperer,
You still have not assigned a url to each of the pages in the navigation menu - which is why they don't work.

What are the names of the pages you have published? For example, what did you name the about me page?

For example, if you named it about me - you need to right click on the navigation on all your pages - and for the navigation for that page you would then need to enter the url:

Notice - if you click on it here it works :)

Now - go assign your page names to the navigation.

I know I may sound stupid but when I watched the tutorial many times over I can't see how to link the whole page. Do I have to link everything individually? Each text box as well as each graphic? Remember I know nothing and am learning from scratch. I am covering my head now! Thanks!

I must be missing something still! I did right click on each of the buttons and name them as you have shown here. I did not link them as the other poster has mentioned as I was'nt sure how to do the whole page. The tutorial shows one graphic and one text and how to link those. I would have thought there was a way to do a whole page faster. Still learning, slow going. Thanks a bunch, I am sure it will all fall into place one of these days..................Sigh!

No, you haven't put the link on any of them - you might have NAMED them - but when you right click (and the tutorial is VERY clear on this)

Right click - click on properties - highlight the page - click on edit -
                Now you see
                Name
                Alternate Text
                Link Type
                Url

Okay - you want the link type to be html
and you need to fill in the url with the exact url to THAT page - like what I gave you above for about us.

Thats exactly what I have done with each page! All I can tell you now is when I type my page links into my browser they come up fine. I can not do this from the navigation bar on my home page, it says address not valid. Thanks for your time!

I'm sorry to tell you that is NOT what you've done. You have NOT assigned the url to the navigation menu - and here's the proof:
                    <TD align="left" valign="top" width="131" height="27"><A href="<A href="http://"><IMG">http://"><IMG id="bv01009" src="bv01009.gif" alt="http://" align="top" border="0" width="131" height="27"></A></TD>

All those red parts with with http:// - should have the urls following them - and you have LEFT THEM BLANK. Or you have not published????

WATCH the tutorial - or PAY attention again here - I'm only going to do the home page instructions once more - you have to follow them for EACH navigation menu item ON EVERY PAGE.

Go onto your home BV page -
                    - RIGHT CLICK on the navigation bar.
                    - Click on Properties
                    - You'll be on the General Tab - and you'll see home at the top - click on it (it will turn blue) then go to the right and click to edit it
                    - Name - it says home and that's fine
                    - Alternate Text - type Home or leave blank
                    - Link type - this needs to say http:

                    - Url - this is the step you keep missing - type in the url to the page - for your home page it is simply http://www.thecatwhisperer8.com

                    - click ok

you are back at the navigation menu - follow through for EACH menu button - inputting the correct url on each one

When finished, click ok to leave this - and REPUBLISH the pages - changes won't take effect unless you publish them.

I am replying to this in hopes that other NEW website builders will not have to go through the agony I did as they read through these problems. You told me over and over that my urls were the problem, yet I had them done as per the tutorials. Thats why they had to work when I typed them into my browser, so I was pretty sure I had something else to LEARN and was waiting for the EXPERTS to help me figure it out! What I did was publish each page as I was told through tutorials. Then I put the urls to the navigation bar. What I did not read anywhere was that I had to REPUBLISH each page again after I did this! Republish was the key I needed to get things to work. Thank you for finally adding something new to the whipping I was taking so I could get the navigation bar to work. I was about to pack it in and hire someone!

I'm glad you finally got it - ANY change to your pages requires publishing - or it won't work online. You can make changes anytime on anything - but for them to show on the web- republish.
