    Pages loading and more...

    Hi,
    Here's my situation -
Just redesigned my whole website and republished it. maravillamountain.com
    1. some pages are just too slow loading, notably "general", and the navigation link from the index to the general page seems to sometimes not even work. I did the navigation buttons over again to try to fix it. I've also reduced the sizes of all images. Now what?
    2. When running pages through "readiness report" in Vodahits, it shows hidden text, but I can't find it? Could it be the pages names, a darker violet on lighter of the same color? If so, can I just darken the text more?
    3. Right edges...last time I did my website, I didn't have any problem with that. This time, the browser (ie) shows the right edge beyond my page size, with all the uneven edges, etc. For a temporary fix, I stretched some pages, and evened up others. What is the real solution?
I guess that's it for now. If some kind soul has answers for any of this, I'm grateful in advance!
    Thank you...

Hi, its mainly down to images. Not sure why but some of the bv images (shapes) are 90 to 220kb
http://maravillamountain.com/bv01188.gifes. There are quite a few like this. I find using tables a lot faster for loading. If you need a graduated back ground, you have to create one with BV, take a screen shot & cut an area out of it to use as the tables background. This way you can get a whole single background down to 2 or 3 kb.
    Regards Chris.

      Hi Chris
Thanks for responding...let me see if I get this -
It is the background shapes that are causing problems.
I don't know what you mean by "tables".
      and
also don't understand the "screen shot" thing, though I feel I have an idea..
can you explain in more detail?
what about if I put the backgrounds into pix resizer?

Hi, the link didn't really help, since I still don't know what a "screen shot" is, etc.
However, when you say paint, do you mean that I should create the entire background in the paint program....
I understand what you did with the three pieces. I haven't really used paint, so I would have to learn how to do it.
So, are you saying that I have to start from scratch with each background shape, create it in paint, then import it to bv? Or is there a way I can somehow copy the shape from bv, bring it into paint and edit?

ok, here I am again....I think I got it, this is what I did.
Learned what a screenshot was and made one of the specific window (a bv shape with the gradient quality I wanted...put it into (not paint, actually I may have put it into paint first - I can't remember right this sec.) ...into HP Image Zone, which I frequently use, then I saved it as a jpg. Then, I opened it with pix resizer, reduced the kbs, saved it and have now imported it into my bv page as an image.
I'm not totally sure of the order, so I'm going to do it again. I think this will work. and I won't have to use a table.
              what do you think?

Hi, everything is worth trying. But most sites will look to get the background area & shapes down to about 20/40kb max, in total for the whole page
                Regards Chris.

Hi, me again after a long absence (my computer was in the shop). Regarding your last message, is there any way within BV to ascertain how big a shape is - how many kbs? And, even other elements and/or the entire page?

You might try running your published page's url through this link, and you can find out lots of information about each aspect of your page, including what has the most kbs., how long it takes to load, effectiveness of keywords, etc. link

Oh , I have one question on this -
with the HTML, if you use the option of copying and pasting their suggested HTML, where do you put it? I went to page properties and HTML, of course, but don't know if I should put it at Head of Page or which tab to use?
and, I thought of another question!
first, I don't know what a PNG is, but apparently I have some...is it better to use jpgs and bitmaps?
