  • Putting Logo on Shortcut on Desktop

    I notice that for some URLs, if one clicks File->Send Shortcut to Desktop, a shortcut icon appears on the Desktop with its unique logo.

    For example, the logo for my company is that multicolor graphic butterfly. How do I get it to appear on the shortcut icon on Desktop ? Any advice ? Thanks.

    best regards,

    Hi,

    It is called a favicon. Click here to learn more about it. Once it appears in the url when you open your website, it will also create the desktop icon with your favicon when you send the url as a shortcut to your desktop.
    Bless you
    Tom

      Re: Putting Logo on Shortcut on Desktop

      Hi Tom,

      I followed the exchanges in the forum thread, and after a few tries I managed to get the favicon show up in the Desktop Shortcut as well as in the URL Address bar in IE Browser.

      However, after I did the same editing to the Page HTML of the other pages and publishing these, the favicon did not show up in the URL Address bar in IE when these pages were selected. Why is this so ?

      Note:

      I could not understand what you meant by "the same place where your index.html is". I had to send the favicon.ico file to my BV FTP public_html folder, before the above could work.

      And the html edit I used on the index page HTML was :-

      <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico">

      On other pages, this edit did not work, neither did your recommendation of :-

      <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.crystalimage-lcd.com/favicon.ico">

      Not sure what went wrong. Would appreciate your kind advice.

      best regards,

        Hi,

        Im having the same problem, but im not sure if it is because im using IE and its just taking a while.

        It doesnt appear on my home page but I have followed forum threads to the letter. Ive uploaded the favicon to ftp and confirmed it by using the link (/favicon) but still no joy.

        Would someone be able to take a look for me.

              I can also see your favicon. I also use favicons and they typically take 24 hours to first appear but equally I agree with LadyEye as sometimes they don't show up at all.
