caching question

This is my website. I received an email about caching being a potential problem. I read how to fix this. I do not have "between head tag" on any of my pages. Does this mean I do not have to worry about caching?

How is it a potential problem? Who sent you the email? ALL sites cache to some extent.. and personally.. I dont mind that google cache my pages.. i get lots of traffic by that cache as well as the indexing. If you mean that they retain your page in cookies and come back and it loads quicker because its CACHED .. how is that a problem?

You do have a head tag.. if you right click on your bv page, page html you can place that code between the head tags.

This forum caches.. i can leave for hours.. come back and dont have to sign in again...in my opinion caching is only a problem when you HOG up the viewing computers resources to the point that they can barely navigate pages that is an issue...and if your website is troubling their computer ...they need to buy a new one.. you dont have anything on there like mp3's or heavy videos etc to bog one down

Hi, just on another note. you need to change most of your images to be web friendly. This page (LINK) & some others are at around 21,000kb & should really be looking at nearer the 200kb each.

21,000kb needs to be cut back to 200kb? I guess that is something else I do not understand. As far as the caching, I was a general note that came from BV. I was just curious mainly if it meant anything to me since I do not understand caching.

Can you explain why 21,000 makes a difference? Sometimes, it takes an extra two seconds for all the pictures to come up but is that a problem to other people? I thought I had unlimited space.

Please explain it to me if it is a problem that I need to fix. Otherwise, I will not be making any changes.

You do have unlimited space.. its the time it takes your site to load for visitors.. the faster it loads the better they like it.

What do you mean a "general NOTE" that came from BV? BV doesnt to my knowledge SEND notes.

Hi, 21,000!
if you want to get from 0to 60 in 2 seconds, around the 200kb is good number to aim for. But if you want to add a ton of weight to the car (21000kb), then its going to take about 15 seconds or more to get their.
Remember that the pages on your site are most likely in your computers cache & will appear to load real quick, but 1st time visitors wont have that advantaged.

I am guessing that the pictures are what is making it to big. Should I delete some of the pictures or spread them out on different pages? Would that make a difference if they were not all on the same page?

Or, is it the size of the picture? Should I make the pictures smaller before I add them to website?

Any other ideas of how to make this better?

As for a "general note", I have received two "Notes" now from BV. One was about a potential problem, and the other was about advertising for BV. For some reason, I want to use the name Brad for the sender of these notes - but I could be wrong. I will be sending out a post regarding the advertising in a different thread.

Its not the phisical size that members are talking about
Its the amount of memory (Kbytes)that a photo takes up and
that can be reduced by using Pic-resizer(download here)

Hi, slight change to Davids suggestions. Physical size is important in relation to how your putting images on your pages. You need to reduce the physical size & also the DPI of the image. (these are 2 separate items) Its a bit like having a paper bag 24"x24" & screwing it up in your hand to 3" ball. It will still have the same weight. Basically! Dont use the blue handles on the images to make them smaller.

Hi, I also got the email from BV (Brad) recommending I do the following:
Please follow the below instructions....

1) Open up BlueVoda.
2) Open up the pages that you do not want cached.
3) Right mouse click on a blank area of the page and select Page HTML
4) Insert the below code "Between Head Tag" as shown below

5) Save and republish the page.

I did this to my pages only they still cache. If I referesh the page I get the new version just published, only the above instructions where meant to ensure pages didnt cache.
Any advice as clients don't always refresh and hence see out of date pages.
