How do I upload a PDF for download on my site?

Use BV's FTP Manager (Tools > FTP Manager). Locate your pdf file on your hard drive in the left pane of the FTP window and drag it across to the right pane (opened to the correct folder you want). After that, you just do a typical link on your page, e.g.: www.yoursite/yourfile.pdf

Clarification, is that link listed as ftp://www.yoursite/yourfile.pdf

No, it's a pdf file saved in your public_html folder, so the link points to that in the normal way: www. etc.
