closing a thread

Sorry I'm asking this here, but I have tried a search and I have scrolled up and down various windows and pages and have not found it.

How do I close my thread when I have gotten my question answered & understand it?

or does the moderator have this control?

Thread are usually left so that others may learn from reading other members problems or questions.
