  • Website within a Website?

I am presently working on a Small Business Network site within our Martech Inc website.

What I am trying to accomplish:

The original website or domain ( presently offline ) is http://Martech-Inc.biz a new website within Martech Inc is to be Ram_Industries Pittsburgh Small Business Network.

What I want to have happen is:

When http://Martech-Inc.biz main page is entered, you have a landing page ( minimal if any flash ) then a continue button which opens into the main page of Martech Inc.

Navigation bar to represent the Martech Inc pages, and a simple gateway to the Ram_Industries Pittsburgh Small Business Network pages or http://Martech-Inc.biz/Ram_Industries

So as seen with the urls above there are 2 separate links within one domain link.
    http://Martech-Inc.biz
    http://Martech-Inc.biz/Ram_Industries
Both are separate from each other but are related to each other by the domain name only and not what is on each individual page.

Martech Inc is broken down as the total of :

    Marketing Technologies
    Marine Technologies

Ram_Industries Pittsburgh Small Business Network is a part of Marketing Technologies and separate from Marine Technologies.

2 separate companies under the main heading of Martech Inc.

I do not want to have information from the Ram_Industries navigation bar to appear in the Martech Inc page such as follows:

    ************************************************** ***
Martech Inc navigation bar will / should have: (Subject to change)

    About Us
    Sponsers
    Projects
    Contact Us
    Photo Gallery
    Live Support
    Martech Store
    Ram_Industries

Ram_Industries navigation bar should have: (Subject to change)

    About Us
    Labor Law Posters
    Business Ideas
    Marketing
    Ecommerce
    Leadership
    Newsletter
    Start a Business
    Home Business
    Franchise
    Human Resources
    Forum
    Business Directory
    Live Support
    Martech Inc

    ************************************************** ****

My problem is when I try to create links from the Ram_Industries Pittsburgh Small Business Network pages to the other pages within the the Ram_Industries section, they also appear on the Martech Inc main navigation bar.

Is there a way to create 2 separate navigation bars so as the only link that each section Martech Inc and Ram_Industries will have in relation to each other is what is seen in the navigation bar? Thus stopping what is seen in Martech Inc section or Ram_Industries section appearing on each others navigation bar.

I have used the following linkto pages and yet when viewing either Martech Inc pages or Ram_Industries pages the links of both sections appear on both sections navigation bars.

    For accessing Martech Inc information:

    http://Martech-Inc.biz/about_us.html
    http://Martech-Inc.biz/projects.html
    http://Martech-Inc.biz/support.html

    For accessing Ram_Industries only information:

    http://Martech-Inc.biz/Ram_Industries
    http://Martech-Inc.biz/Ram_Industries/about_us.html
    http://Martech-Inc.biz/Ram_Industries/marketing.html
    http://Martech-Inc.biz/Ram_Industries/business_dir.html

I only want to gain access to Ram_Industries from the Martech Inc navigation bar and not the additional pages that make up Ram_Industries or Martech Inc from the Ram_Industries navigation bar not to include the additional pages which are a part of Martech Inc.

    What am I missing?

What program are you using that gives you automatic links? That could be the problem.

Also, you might want to think about simply purchasing a domain name for Ram Industries and making it an add-on instead of a sub-domain - which would easily solve all these problems - as then you'd have separate navigation even in whatever program you're using.

      Bethers:

I have been using BV as the page generater........

When I save each page I understand I must save it as [ http://Martech-Inc.biz/about_us.html ] and not as about_us.html

But each page has the http://Martech-Inc.biz etc ..... http://Martech-Inc.biz/Ram_Industries etc etc etc .

The entire network needs to be as a subdomain .... since other options of the Martech Inc and Ram_Industries must work together as the entire network processing.

Martech is the name of the network.

The following are individual companies all part of the Martech network.

      Martech Inc.
      Ram_Industries
      Pittsburgh Small Business Network
      Custom Steel Boats
      Lambs Yachts
      Authentic Yachts Brokerage Firm
      Neville Yachts Associates

Each company belongs to the Martech network. Each company will be represented on the domain of Martech-Inc.biz and at the website of http://Martech-Inc.biz

Of all the companys represented by the Martech Inc Network, Ram_Industries is the one which will manage all correspondance and additions to the Martech Inc network.

Basically Ram_Industries is the hub of the entire network.

What goes onto the http://Martech-Inc.biz website itself is maintained by Ram_Industries, processed through Ram_Industries.

We all have a direct feed MediaTron to each other....

That is why I am asking on how to stop internal links from one group appearing onto each section from any of the other sections.

      Ex:

Martech Inc will list its main navigations
      Ram_Industries lists its main navigations
Lambs Yacht lists its main navigations

But the only navigations which will link them all together is what is shown below.

Martech Inc Nav Bar to have:

      About Us
      Sponsors
      Projects
      Martech Inc.
      Ram_Industries
      Lambs Yachts

      Etc. Etc. Etc.

Lambs Yachts Nav bar will have

      Home

      Contact Us
      Parts & Accesories
      Engines & Generators
      Slips
      Painting & Restoration
      Links
      Martech-Inc
      Ram_Industries
      Neville Yachts

      etc. etc. etc.

Neville Yachts Nav bar will have

      More about CNa
      News
      Services
      Links & Stuff Martech Inc
      Mini-Rants Design Package
      Dreams Coming True Other Thoughts
      Ram_Industries White Book Contact Chuck

      Custom Steel Boats
      Lambs Yacht Center

      etc. etc. etc.

As you see each has a direct link to but not including the navigations of thier own sites appearing on each representative site except for a direct link listed in the navigation bar.

I hope you understand what I am speaking about.

In BV all the internal nav bars located on each individual site within the Martech Network appears on the landing page of the Martech network.

as will show below using BV.

as seen on Martech Inc network page itself:

      About Us
      Sponsers
      Ram_Industries
      About Us
      Projects
      Gallery
      Custom Steel Boats
      About Us
      Contractors
      Painting / Coatings
      Marinas
      Lambs Yacht Center
      About Us
      Engines and Generators
      Parts and Accessories
      Neville Yachts
      About Us

      When instead it should be:

      On the Martech network page:

      About Us
      Sponsers
      Projects
      Contact Us
      Ram_Industries
      Lambs Yacht Center
      Custom Steel Boats
      Neville Yachts

Without the navigations of each page appearing as well!

As you may see purchasing new domains would not be appropriate....
When each one is a part of the entire network already, and purchasing new domains to show each company would create such a huge list of domains with in a domain instead of websites within 1 domain.

This type of internal network should be fairly straightforward to set up as long as you SAVE correctly......

        I.E.....main network in public_html
other networks in separate folders or subdomain folders.

Then when you save any page for the main network
        save as martec_about_us to public_html

Save another network page as ram_about_us and publish to public_html/ram

Nav bar urls would then be
        http://Martech-Inc.biz/about_us.html etc

Individual links to the rest of the networks would be
http://Martech-Inc.biz/ram (which will each contain its own index page)

repeat above link for other networks and simply change the folder(network) name.

Each network would then have its own index page and different nav bars.

Then you could always provide cross links to access appropiate networks....
        Have fun
        Regards..... David

          Re: Website within a Website?

          A great huge THANKS David:

Had been toying with this issue going on 3 weeks now, and was just about to stop, when I recieved a new client who wanted to be involved with his own stand alone website within the network of Ram_Industries.

So just to get it all out and make sure I understand.

I should basically create 2 index.html folders or how ever many groups which will be a part of the network correct?

This way when I have the Martech Inc website published it will be as:
http://Martech-Inc.biz and have its own index.html and Ram_Industries would have its own as: http://Martech-Inc.biz/Ram_Industries.html

Ram_Industries will be the only website that will directly link to http://Martech-Inc.biz and all other sites will directly link to http://Martech-Inc.biz/Ram_Industries.html

Thus stopping all the navigation bar links from appearing at the Martech main page but permitting them to show on the Ram_Industries page.

But at the same time permit them to open Martech from within the Ram_Industries network since Martech Inc will be listed in the navigation bar.

Will slowly work with this and when complete post to you a link to verify it has been created as you have stated.

            Re: Website within a Website?

Basically, you have reached an understanding about the folder concept.
But, I need to clear up minor points for you.
            1) folder/directory already exists for your main group(root dir=public_html) so always publish main group to public_html then all links within your main group will be
            http://maingroupname.biz ..........(index/home page)
http://maingroupname.biz/pagename.html for all other pages in main group.

            2) create as many new folders as there are subsiduaries
publish to public_html/subsiduaryname ..(first page should be an index page)
all other pages for this sub should be published to
            ie: public_html:/subsiduaryname
All links within this sub will be:

To take this a little further, you can also have a folder within a folder.

You can have duplicate page names as long as they are in seperate folders/directories.

If you create the same web folder system on your computer then this will be easier to maintain.

Just be careful to publish to the correct folder/directory.......

If you have any problems, then you can email me(you have my email address)

            have fun
            Have fun
            Regards..... David
