Linking Text to File, not Link

Sorry about the newbie question, i read previous posts and watched the video but still need help.

OK, lets say my main file on BV is called ACE. I then open a new page, and save it as ACE2. So i go back to ACE, and I try to make a text hyperlink to ACE2, but it wont work.

I highlight the text, i click the LINK button above, for LINK TYPE i choose FILE, then I click BROWSE FOR A FILE, it then opens my BLUEVODA folder. I select the ACE2 file, but then my URL looks like this: ./ace2.html

Then when I PREVIEW IN BROWSER my ACE page and click the link I get an error. I have even tried putting it into my URL like this C:\Documents and Settings\mike\Recent\ace2.html. But it still doesnt work...I'd apprecite any help.

And again, sorry for such a newbie question.

Your landing page of your domain need to be

    named as index
    saved as index
    published as index

the link for the above would be http://www.yourdomainname.com

The next page of your site can be called ace

    it will be named ace
    saved as ace
    and published as ace

the link for this page would be http://www.yourdomainname.com/ace.html

You do not add the .html to the name of the page .... you apply the .html when you type the link, or link to this page from another ...

Please view the tutorials found under "linking your pages together" ..

Until your site is published you are unable to go through the links ... you can however, preview each individual page ....

The tutorials to guide you through making your website are plentiful on this forum as well as posts made by other members and can also be found very easily by performing a search, a feature you will find located at the top of this forum, as well all the tutorials can also be found at the top of the forum.

First of all thanks so much for responding. Yes i did see that video, but i still did not understand how to do text linking to another file.

Even if i have not yet published my site, when I make a text link on my landing page, to another page, shouldn't it still work when I do Preview In Browser?

Re: Linking Text to File, not Link

        Hi ...

No it won't work, there is "No Such Page" as yet, you see ... but you need to be certain you are applying the links in the correct way so that when you do publish, all links and pages are working ...

If you are using the "text menu", the pop up box is there for you to type in the url's of each page .. each page begins with your domain name followed by the separation of / and ends with nameofthe page.html

If you are just using text (a word or a few words) to apply a link to, you highlight the word as you would copy and paste and go to insert, link.

It is also highly recommended you have the same navigation to and from all of your website pages, making navigation easy for the users.

Have a look at my pdf document found here ... you may find a few useful tips by reading ...

Re: Linking Text to File, not Link

Ladyeye: Thanks so much again. OK i got it to work, here's the issue though. When I click the link, it goes to the page (ACE2) that i want it to go, but theres a bunch of those Squares & Y's that appear on the page that totally mess it up.

Any idea whats that from or how to get rid of it so it shows up normal?

So u know, when i made the link, this is what i put into the URL under file: C:\Documents and Settings\mike\Desktop\Ace2.html

lol Squares & Y's on the page ... I must say you have me on that one .. someone else may know what those are, I can't say I have ever seen them or even read about them ... lol

Okay, just so you know too, you will need to change the linking you have put in place for your pages when you go to publish .... right ...

            :)

Hmmm ... icy squares, would be great to have some of those right now, lol ... that's the only thing I can think of ...

Possibly check your view tools, I don't believe it is the "grid" doing this, but you might check around there .. your top tool bars of your builder ...

Ah ... Perhaps you are using a font that is "unfriendly" ... it is best to stick with web friendly fonts to avoid this ... if indeed this is what those icy squares and y's are ... fonts like ariel, courier, verdana ..

I am using Ariel only. Could this be because i am saving my files as HTML?
