color issue with drop down menu

I created my own buttons in Photoshop and I'm trying create a drop down menu where the text on the menu is transparent and the drop down menu is colored. When I pick the text to be transparent on the menu bar, the drop down menu is transparent as well. If I pick a color for the text background, it shows a color block around the text on the menu making my buttons look awful.
