ftp server

Hi guys:
I need a help, how to link an icon to a pdf file.
I drag and drop the pdf to the ftp server, click on the properties to see the path to the file and copy it to the lynk type of the image properties.
It looks like something ftp://74.54.123.54/filename.pdf but it always give an error page when trying to open it.

change the link to http://www.yoursite.com/filename.pdf
