    Strange: same browser, different pcs'

    Hi,
I hope I'm in the right forum for this one. I know about web safe typefaces but this has me confused. In my site http://www.jamesbartondesign.com I have a simple logo at the bottom of the pages created in text. The "C" is in Rage Italic and the "reative by design" is in Arial. On my desktop pc I have checked it in various browsers (IE, firefox, opera and netscape) and it all looks OK. Now, when I checked it in firefox on my laptop the "C" has reverted to Arial (I think: it is certainly not Rage Italic). Can anyone tell me what is going on? Thanks.

Hi Pro ...I don't know how you did it... but the C looks good to me in firefox... Not usually good idea to mix font types in the same text box... but you can get away with it sometimes if you use 2 textboxes... hope that helps... Doug

Wel, it IS all about web-friendly fonts. Unless the viewer of your site has Rage Italic installed, what they see will be whatever their personal default is; in many cases, Arial. If you want to use a non-web-freindly font you will have to make your logo in a graphics program, like paint or something, save it as a jpeg or gif, and insert it as an image. Little more work, but it will accomplish what you want.
        Good luck.

Hi to those who have "given their tuppence worth". Thanks. Yes, I did create two text boxes and I now understand about the viewer needing to have the non standard text installed to view it properly. It is a salutory lesson in that just because one sees something as OK it does not neccessarily mean that everyone else does. Oh well; photoshop here we come. Incidentally, does anyone else find the photoshop text tool rather inferior? Or is it just me who uses it in such a way that it appears inferior? Probably the latter.

Save your text image as a .png ... saves nice and looks good, and then don't forget to "Alt text" your image when applying it to your webpage ...
