I need clarification on saving pages please.

Hi - This probably seems an obvious question - however after watching the tutorials and searching the forum I am still not clear on this particular issue. I am at the stage of having created my website on blue voda (comprising an index page, about us page, contact details page (and so on) plus pages listing product for sale - and wish to name the pages and create links within the site in the correct format prior to uploading the pages to the internet. Do I name each page (for example the index page)using the full URL, eg http://www.websitename.com/index, or the shorter version, eg index.bvp? In the case of the index page should I add the extension bvp or leave it blank? In the case of the other pages (eg contact details) should I save them as the full URL (with or without extension) eg http://www.websitename.com/contactdetails, or the short version eg contactdetails.html (or just contactdetails, without the extension)?

Then, as far as setting up the links within my website to these newly named pages (eg setting the URL for a 'contact details' menu button within the site) should the full URL details of the page the button connects to within my site be used, or a shortened version? I would really appreciate examples of the correct formats as I am rather confused about this issue despite my efforts to sort it out via the tutorials and posts. Many thanks!!

You would save you home page as index nothing else, lower case. Same with your other pages, lower case, no spaces (use underscore to seperate words) no extentions (file types) Then publish your pages one at a time. Once published you link them using the full url, IE
    http:// www . yoursite. what ever/ index.html
    without the spaces of course.

If I understand you correctly D'son:

The index page would be 'saved as' index

The other pages however would be 'saved as' using the full URL (without extensions) as per the following example:

      www.websitename.com/contactdetails

OR, have I misunderstood and the other pages should be 'saved as' the shorter:

      contactdetails

Finally, if I understand your comment on uploading the pages once correctly saved, linking a (for example) 'contact us' button on one of the website pages to the actual 'contact us' page would be done by entering the full URL and extension 'behind' the contact us button, prior to uploading the pages the button and contact us details are actually on.

eg you would enter http://www.websitename.com/contactus.html as the address behind the contact us button?

      Many thanks for your help.

        Hi Jack,

all pages should be saved as in example of "contactdetails" - nothing else, just like index.

For linking buttons, your ex. is correct.

        Any help needed, come back.
