Publishing problems

I have just created my first webpages and successfully uploaded them (published them) along with some JPEG pictures and a PDF file which was done with the FTP software. When I view the website which should be www.shieldtechnology.co.uk all I get is Index of / followed by a long list of the files that were uploaded rather than the website itself. What have I done wrong? all replies very gratefully received.

You need to name and save and publish your first page as
index
and nothing else.....................

Thanks for your help and suggestions, having made the change, it all works fine now! I have been working through the tutorials and they are indeed a great help. I need to find a tutorial to help me use the various forums - for a complete web building novice they are much more difficult to get to grips with than Blue Voda which is excellent.
