Lost page files

Another newbee question...

I had a hard drive-crash and lost all my bvp files. I imported html files from the internet and saved them as bvp files. I have made some changes in my pages but when i try to republish, the changes has not taken effect. I do get the message that publishing has been succsessful.. Tell me what to do, please!!!
