publishing what did we do wrong?

When we published in public_html it was successful,however when you view the site it only lists all html files not a page .It must be something simple but what?Is the problem that the page is saved as index_html?
if so how do I fix it ?
can anyone help/We finally get to publish and it goes belly up

Name the file index and then publish it. That will put it as your main site.

Thanks did that, but when it published the page is very wide and i don't seem to be able to change it.each time I do it goes back wide on the preview page,any suggesstions?

It is not the page that is wide i think, it's the background that covers the whole screen. Your page is 850 vpixels wide
