What is a Meta Tag?

I name all my pages but I'm unsure what a meta tag is. Why is it useful?

A meta tag is used for your page title, keywords and page description
amongst other items.......
They are important because the search engines look for those and then decide where in their rankings, you belong.

Always create a title made up from a few KEY words that appear on that page.
Always create a page description that includes the title and a few of the key words that appear on that page.

In this manner you will stand more of a chance to be noticed by the S.E´s
