After upgrade to 3.0.3 via Fantastico, plugins cannot be install in dashboard!

After the wordpress sites being upgraded to 3.0.3 via Fantastico, plugins cannot be install in dashboard.

    For example:

    Downloading install package from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugi...rce.3.7.8.zip…
    Unpacking the package…

only the above message was found during the installation and no plugin can be installed, not only wp e-commerce, I have tried to install several plugins but same results happened.

Be sure any plugin you wish to install is intended for the version of Wordpress you are installing it to. Often, plugins will require manual installation after an upgrade, especially if they have lost association to a previous installation. This may require you to delete any saved plugin, select a proper version (if needed), and to import again to see if it can be installed via the Dashboard before resorting to manual installation.

In any event, follow the installation instructions that come with every plugin, paying close attention to any tips regarding upgrades or template bugs.

      Thanks to Mr Vasili first.
I am sure that the plugins I want to install are fit for the upgraded version of WP. If plugins will require manual installation after an upgrade of WP, then it will cause a lot of extra work to install the plugins. Not only the plugins, the same happens to the new themes that I am trying to install.

So how can I upgrade the WP without causing such troubles? If such troubles are inevitable, is it worthy upgrading WP since WP always has a new version?

I have said it many times before, and unfortunately I still believe it bears repeating: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

The issue is not really if it is worth the time and effort to upgrade to a newer version of a script (WordPress, Joomla, phpBB, etc.) or not as much as it is the Administrator's knowledge of the web platform itself and how comfortable they are managing it in every aspect. There are indeed times that an upgrade should be undertaken, especially if the script has been the target of repeated exploitation attacks which reveal a serious vulnerability that the upgrade addresses, so in this perspective performing an upgrade is merely prudent in order to preserve the overall security of the site itself no matter what efforts are required.
        * An important part of "Administrating" a scripted website is being aware of the News and buzz within the Community that may alert you to important issues and improvements, and this too, requires an investment of time and effort to monitor properly.

The real issue is the complacency that develops when relying upon auto-install methods such as are offered by Fantastico and other "User-Friendly" Control Panels and Utilities ..... people simply begin to think that everything only takes a few clicks to install, repair, correct, or evolve, and when they face a juncture in their learned patterns when facing a decision to perform a task or undertake a procedure that requires them to follow precise instructions or processes they literally freak out or refuse to follow the outlined steps in order to achieve the predictable results.

When individuals place so much emotional investment on how their scripts look, feel, and function they way they are comfortable with, they are naturally more protective of it to preserve it they way they are used to, and are reluctant to evolve themselves along with the platform, required or not. It takes a lot more effort to customize a template or theme, to prepare and load the platform with the images that are "just right" and to add their comments and Content that best reflect themselves, and when confronted with a threat to that continuity, they are most likely to refuse to accept the additional efforts required to simply overcome the normal obstacles facing them --- which explains the incredulity they express when they begin to understand their misplaced reliance on auto-installations and their own perpetuated ignorances.

        Bottom Line?
Upgrades to web scripts are justified only by the improvements made to them, and whether or not they apply to your own instance. If an ugrade is worthy in that perspective, it requires the knowledge and efforts to accomplish, even if it means switching types of installation (Fantastico to Manual) to learn a more stable and sustainable method that can be managed comfortably.
In other words, it may prove wiser in the long run to learn how to properly do a manual installation, if only to be more capable of administrating all aspects of your website and to keep the door open to more and greater opportunities that only a manual installation may present.

        IMO
