    WP - directory help

k so when I went to install the WP blog thing onto my site, I get stuck on directory part. Mainly because of this thing:

Leave empty to install in the root directory of the domain (access example: http://domain/).
Enter only the directory name to install in a directory (for http://domain/name/ enter name only). This directory SHOULD NOT exist, it will be automatically created

Says leave empty to install in the root directory of the domain. So that means I'll be installing it on the homepage??

So I add something to the directory. "http://myexample.com/blog"

I continue to the next step -- but what's this?

"The installation can not be completed:
    - No valid directory name provided.
Click on the browser's Back button to fix reported errors."

Ok then, so I re-read the first quoted message.

    Now focused on this part:
Enter only the directory name to install in a directory (for http://domain/name/ enter name only). This directory SHOULD NOT exist, it will be automatically created

So, in a confused attempt to follow what was being said I re-name the directory "http://domain/blog" Because of it saying enter NAME only.

Again the same result, "Invalid directory name provided"

So now after a while of going through the first page of the WP category in the support forums, I've come with the conclusion that I am the only stupid one to get stuck on this part.

And that I need to post a thread of my own in order to get help for this.

Please and thank you for anyone that is willing to take their time to help the stupid (aka ME.)

    Re: WP - directory help

I take it you are trying to add a Wordpress blog to your www.Edithartz.com site, correct?

You will simply need to create a NAME for your blog and type it into the little box ... Fantastico will automatically create the directory to install it into, which means you must first select the domain "edithhartz.com" from the domain selection tool to creatre the new directory in (assuming that you have your multiple websites in the same account).

    So ...
    1. Select the domain you wish to install the Wordpress blog upon (edithartz.com) from the drop-down list.
    2. Create a name for your blog and type it into the little box (maybe "my-blog" or even simply "blog"???).

Continue to go through the rest of the setup, entering your email address for the Admin Email, create your own "User Name" (which will appear on the blog as 'Author' of articles) and a Password.

    Finish creating your blog.

IF all goes well, the link to your blog that you can then enter onto your www.Edithartz.com website navigation buttons will be: http://www.Edithartz.com/blog/

And to get to your WP Admin Dashboard to fully configure the setup and begin writing articles, the link to Add To Favorites in your browser for easy access will be www.Edithartz.com/wp-admin/

If all else fails, it's best to follow the Tutorials precisely:
How to install WordPress via Fantastico in your Control Panel

If you are following the instructions and Fantastico is acting abnormally and not installing properly, Contact Support and Describe Your Situation ... maybe they will fix the problem and install it for you!

Yes I'm doing it for the website edithatrz.com

I've already seen the tutorial, but I'm not sure if you've seen it before you mentioned to follow it precisely. Seeing as, if you did, you'd know there wasn't really a "precise" way to follow it as it shows really basic instructions and nothing in detail.

Though anyway, I think you've answered my question.

What I need to enter in the directory is "blog" and thats pretty much it right? No full site name like "http://myexample.com/blog",and no bs "http://domain/blog"

JUST, purely, the name... being "blog"

Thank you for clearing that up, the examples really confused me when it said "http://domain" I thought I had to follow the example and add that as well.

Though I will say that the tutorial helped me finding where to install WP with the "Blue smiley face" pointing that out quite well.
