Rookie questions re making a template

    Re: www.elizabethbaileyportraits.com

Some time ago Chris gave me the following info when I asked for a site review. I am posting here as I read that we were not to ask for help under a site review. So please forgive if this is not the right place. I am hoping that he or someone else can help:

But if you use tables it works in a different way (not to sure how) But you end up with a page that was 732kb in background images being brought down to about 10kb. (a big 3/4meg drop).
This page is made up this way. http://www.collectors-info.com/testing/bgtest.html
To make this, is all I did was:….
    1. Do the page background as you did before with the red stripe image.
    2. Then Place a table on the page with the insert table properties set at (From the top) 1/1/0/0/0 press ok.
    3. Then right click on the table & select table properties & add your image or background colour. IE: Grey colour for the 1st one, as this is what will give the illusion that there are borders. (don’t use the tables borders as they don’t look the same in all the browsers)
    4. Now stretch the table out to about 900wx1400h (assuming this is the grey background)
    5. Now repeat the above again for all other elements/panels on the page using the images that you used for the shapes that you used on your original pages. (I am assuming these images are similar in size to the red stripe background image that you used )??

Post back if you are not sure.
My questions are so amaturish that I am embarsassed to ask but I need the answeres before I go on. Chris's example shows a very nice gray background that is serving as the border. I can't find it in the backgrounds that I have downloaded from BV. My substitute found here, http://www.elizabethbaileyportraits....mplateTest.php has a texture and I think plain gray would be better. Where is grey like he used?

Also, under Page Properties I set the size to 900 X 1400. But I don't know how to get to the bottom of the page in BV to made my 'border' a little smaller. Is it a matter of guess work or is it possible to view the page at and below the red background?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi Barb

Here is a handy tool which you can use ...

Program that allows you to detect the color of any pixel on the screen. It provides you with the RGB values, HTML hex code, and the color name, of the color of the selected pixel.

it's a color picker, you just pick a color from anything anywhere and it will give you the color codes ... try it and you can retrieve Chris's color code ... (you can apply the color on a shape .. and use this as a border ...)

To increase your page length in BV9 - right click page properties and you will see the menu there for page width and length ... take it down as far as you need it.

    Hope that helps ...

Thank you so much. I've been away from this for 2 months and feeling very rusty. The colordetector program is great. I've used others, but this is the most convenient.
