    Image editing

    Hi!
So far this is the easiest website builder I have tried. But I'm having trouble with importing a clipart image.
The image was edited in Serif's PhotoPlus and the backgound was made transparent so that the page background would be visible rather than have a white box.
It was exported as a jpg and also a bmp but when inserted into my webpage I get a white square with the image in the middle.
How can I make the clipart's background clear?

Neither jpeg or bmp is capable of a true transparent background. Export your clipart as png. You may have to experiment a bit with PhotoPlus (which I'm not familiar with); I have several drawing programs and some easily create png's with transparency but some tend to take some "convincing" to work consistently.

Thanks Ed. I knew there was another one but I couldn't remember!

Rincewind, if this turns out to be a problem for you, go to the Contact link on my website (below) and send me the dimensions you want and attach the file. I can probably make it work for you.

I said that wrong--click on the "@" sign on the nav bar to send an email and attachment.

          Hi!

Cracked it! Thanks Tom & Ed.

Tried gif & png with PhotoPlus but no good. GIMP no help either. Tried Paint.NET and png worked flawlessly first time.

Thanks for the advice. And the offer of help.

Incidentally, bv shows my image size as 94x78 - but what measurement is it? I'm probably missing something but I can't seem to find it.

You mean what units? That's pixels. Tip: It's a bad idea to resize an image using the blue handles (in BV). Instead, you should make the image the size you want when you create the png file.

              Pixels, thanks.

Thanks too for the tip. I had resized with handles. Just followed your advice and the image quality is much better.
Does the resolution make any difference?

Hope I'm not wandering too far off the thread here but I appreciate your advice.

                Re: Image editing

96 dpi is all you ever need resolution-wise because screen resolution maxes out there. Going over 96 dpi only makes the file size larger (making your page load slower) without making the image look any better.
