In Blue Voda, the images disappear after some time period and are replaced with a box and the message 'image not found'. Does anyone know how to prevent this problem?

Not sure.. but if you copy and paste sometimes they get renamed on publish so as not to overwrite the original. Can you show us a specific link to where this is occurring?
