    Sell Photo's

    Hi,

We have started a new company and would like some help with developing a site. The concept is selling photographs. I have the following questions:

    1. What shopping cart should I use
    2. I do not want visitors to be able to copy the photo's.
I was thinking of posting them small and allow larger view.
Should I "stamp" them - once they are enlarged? What will be best?

We would like this site to be active by Wednesday.

    Thanx
    Melinda

    Hi Melinda,

    Which Wednesday??LOL
    1. A stumbling block you need to think out first is..."How are you going to receive payment?" as Paypal is not available to South Africa's for the receiving of payment.
    2. The only real way to prevent the copying of your pictures is via a watermark. Have a look at the large commercial stock photo sites for ideas, some of them use a ghosted watermark which is quite effective, as you want to show off the 'quality of shot' while making it difficult to remove the watermark.
    3. There are a couple of shopping cart options to look at which will work and available in your in VH fantastico (joomla + virtual cart or OS Commerce etc) or Navaldesign has a custom instant download cart which you can add to your BV site. With your timelines this might not be a bad option.
Look forward to seeing the finished product.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Do you think I should rather just add a form that allow you give me the details of your order via e-mail?
What do you suggest for posting the photos? I had a look at the lightbox, but then I can't name them. Maybe another text box below the lightbox with the names?

Melinda there are payment gateways available in SA, which will allow you to accept secure credit card payments. It's the old one "make it as easy for vistors to spend money as possible"
You can add titles in lightbox>>click on photo file after you've added it tp lightbox and change the thumbnail title (this allows visitors to view your description or what ever you typed on mouse over) Now if you want that title or decription visible go to >>lightbox>>style and click >>include title in galley. (title now visible)

        Cheers,
        Andrew

            Hi,
I checked out jalbum as an option for myself and found the following in the terms and conditions. You need to ask permission to use it for a commercial venture. Usually free stuff has a catch.
Server side use of Jalbum as part of a commercial offering
The User is not allowed to use the Jalbum‘s software in automated use as part of a commercial offering unless first having obtained Jalbums express consent to the contemplated use. For the avoidance of doubt Jalbum shall always be entitled to withhold such consent and it may also be subject to commercial negotiations. For enquiries regarding commercial use of the Jalbum software as a server side service please contact Jalbum at info@jalbum.net
            All the best

              Hi Catherine,

Due to time being an problem, I have decided to skip the on-line shopping for now. I will have to have a better look and see what is best for SA conditions.
