    Having problems with canonical urls

I need to do a 301 redirect. I am using dreamweaver 8. From what I have read; your just suppose to create a .htaccess file and input the file to be moved and where it should go. The problem is, I created the .htaccess and when I click on it to input it say's "can't find a valid file editor for this extension" What do I do? What am I missing?

ok... You need to create it in notepad.. put the 301 coding in.. save as

    .htacess

upload to the directory you are trying to direct

you cant edit it in cpanel because its looking for and will save as text or txt or doc etc.

ok..when you say upload to the directory you are wanting to move, can you clarify. I got www.domain.com/index.html and I want this redirected to www.domain.com. So do I upload to to the public directory since it is the main site? Upload to the root of the site?

Also, say I were to want to move, www.domain.com/folderA/fileA.html to www.domain.com/FolderB/ Would I just the .htaccess to folderA.

Sorry, very confused about this whole thing. Thanks for your help. ~Dustin
