Google had problem with my sitemap

Hi, I recently installed a sitemap per Google instructions. However, when checking today on Google, I got this warning:
"All the URLs in your Sitemap are set to the same priority (not the default priority). Priority indicates the importance of a particular URL relative to other URLs on your site, and doesn't impact your site's performance in search results. If all URLs have the same priority, Google can't tell which are more important."
Realizing that I had to set the priorities differently, I tried to edit my priorities for each page using the code editor on CPanel. No luck! I could change 2 of the 7 priorities but that was it! I then downloaded the sitemap.xml file from CPanel to a xml editor, changed the priorities and uploaded to my file folder. When I checked the file it hadn't changed! I did check to box to override the existing file so I can't understand why nothing changed???
    Sorry for the long post...

Did you check the permissions? When you download it, right click properties, make sure the READ ONLY isnt ticked. Also on the server, check your prermissions for that file are set to 755 so that you can edit it.

You can reset it to 644 or read only, after you reup it.

      Hi Karen,

I did have it set for 755 but I'll check to see if the Read Only is checked and let you know.

Yes.. but check it on your hard drive too, when you edit it.

I dont know what you generated with.. but you should be able to tell the generator to reset those priorities as well

              Hi Karen,

Sorry for the long delay in responding. I needed to get some sleep!
After trying to use the "code editor" in cPanel a number of times to change the priorities with no luck I opened the "edit" editor and was able to edit the priorities. ??? I'm assuming this will be OK but need to wait for Google to access the file again to see what happens.
              Does this make any sense?

                  Karen,

Yep the editor. I did go back and check the xml sitemap generator website. According to them the generator was suppose to "automatically" set the priorities. On their forum someone else wrote in with the same problem and did not get any resolution - unlike BV!

                  Thanks again for your help!
