    Seo Key words and Headers?

    Hi

I have nearly finished the initial pages of a new website using BV for the first time and am happy to say it all seems to have gone fairly well. However before submitting it for search engine registration I have been running the pages through an SEO programme and two items have come up that I don't seem to be able to resolve and can't find any previous posts on in the forums.

    1. Relates to Headers. The seo programme is telling me I either don't have one or if I do there is no text in it. It seems to have a high priority for SEO purposes and I did find this in another post in here which said "Keywords in headings (<H1>, <H2>, etc. tags) One more place where keywords count a lot. But beware that your page has actual text about the particular keyword."

    2. The other is that looking at the html there is none of the usual "Meta Name" lines for robots which is normally found below the meta tags instructing how and when to index.

Maybe I have missed the places to include the above items? Any comments or assistance to correct these greatly appreciated. The site is http://www.repdomproperties.com and any comments on the site in general will also be appreciated as if there are any issues I would rather correct them before submitting to google etc.

    Thanks

    Adrian

I don't have the answer for you sorry, I was wondering a similar thing about head tag (h1, h2, etc.)

If we want our keywords to have more priority, do we need to create an html box and manually insert each h1 tag or does BV do that automatically when we underline, bold, italic, or increase the font?

    Adrian,

can you please tell me what SEO program you are using? I would like to know more so i can optimize my site as well. Thanks!

page properties is where you add this information - page title, description, keywords ... so right click on your page and add this information ..

remember, keywords are keywords and should appear at least 3 times as text on the page .. and remember keywords can be phrases, as well as single words .. and don't overdo it .. 3 - 8 or so is plenty ..

the page title should reflect what this page is about and should be different on all pages - it is often times what you see listed when your page is found by searching .. if and when that happens ..

as far as h tags, these can be added to your page, simply by right clicking on the text you are using as your headings, and choose html and then type in <h1> in the before tag and <h1/> in the after tag .. it is best to use h1 only once, but h2 or h3 can be added a few times .. just think of your headings as headlines for your page, as you might notice in a newspaper ..

these headings should be a slightly larger text than any other text on your page - you can do this directly in blue voda ...

you can look up examples of what the meta code looks like within the html document from a coding perspective. Main thing is to create unique meta data: titles/descrip/tags (keywords) along with headers although the headers aren't as important as the previous 3 mentioned.

Hi Adir. The programme is webceo and the free version is downloadable at www.webceo.com There is an upgrade to a paid version with more facilities which is on offer at the moment. I have seen others on here recommend this programme and on other sites it seems to be regarded as one of the best available. Takes some getting used to but has good tutorials etc. Hope it helps.

Thank you LadyEye. I thought there would be a simple answer to this out there. I had done all the page titles, descriptions, keywords etc and just could not understand why my seo programme kept telling me there were no H1 etc headings.....I assumed these would have been put in automatically as part of the html coding by the BV programme....now I know how to do it. Thanks.

Re: Seo Key words and Headers?

A follow up on the above. I went into some of the pages, primarily the index page and added the <h1> <h1/> tags but it had a strange effect by making all the text on the page when viewed on the web and in preview bold which then, apart from looking bad, put the text out of alignment. On the BV page it was fine and in the html it had the <b> </b> before and after the bold text. It went away as soon as I removed the h1 tags. Any suggestions what caused this welcome

              Thanks

H tags automatically configure size and bold unless you code them differently in your html statement.

Re: Seo Key words and Headers?

Hi Karen....Ok! But in LadyEye's reply above she only says
"as far as h tags, these can be added to your page, simply by right clicking on the text you are using as your headings, and choose html and then type in <h1> in the before tag and <h1/> in the after tag .. it is best to use h1 only once, but h2 or h3 can be added a few times"

No reference to any other "coding" needed. Can you tell me what else is needed to insert the h tags without it affecting the fonts. Incidently and funnily enough when I looked back at the page the h2 and h3 tags I had inserted were still there but had not caused the Bold effect on the rest of the page. It seemed to be just the h1 tag.

                  Yhanks
                  Regards

Re: Seo Key words and Headers?

The h tag auto formats BOLD no matter what size it is. H1 is standard 24pt or size 6 then they go down from there.. you simply add a statement

                    <h1> <font size="4">Your text here</font></h1>

size 4 equals 12pt text so you can do the math from here.
                    h2 is size 5
                    h3 is size 4
                    h4 is size 3
                    h5 is size 2
                    h6 is size 1

                      Hi Karen

Thanks for the above. I believe I have spotted the real cause of the problem though. In LadyEye's post she shows "<h1> in the before tag and <h1/> in the after tag" but this should be </h1> in the after tag stopping the heading and the bold. No doubt a "typo" which I just followed without thinking, but just goes to show how careful you need to be when editing HTML directly.

                      Thanks again
