but i was wondering , i update my site every day with the latest news etc , do i need to update the meta tags and the ror file etc every day to keep up , its mainly changing news items etc not so much adding full pages

If the content changes on a page then its probable advisable to update meta tags to reflect this.
If you have not added any new pages then you will not have to update
your ROR file.

Putting in news, I wouldn't consider needing to update the meta - cuz they should reflect what is the basic info on the page - not the news that comes through a feed - or then have the page descritpion reflect that.
