    Computer Problems

Can anyone help us with this problem? Despite having some protection on the computer we seem to have some virus that has got in. It frequently will re-direct to other sites - usually gambling, sales or occasionally dating sites. Doing a google search no links will go through to the correct site; even typing the address in full mostly doesn't work. Either you go through to a different site, the site doesn't open, or even a 'non-address sign' comes up. (Even google.com.au & hotmail.com don't exist). I got on this site because the shortcuts still work.

My husband has used Panda to check on things, & it has removed some spyware etc. Now our problem is the computer won't let us get into any anti-virus sites. My husband managed to get a site he wanted & has bought a new protection program - but now we can't download it. He got an email aknowledging the sale with a link & address to go to download the new program. The computer plain refusing to go to that address - nothing he has tried works. Any ideas? The virus seems to be particularly connected with google - you seem to get re-directed all the time with google. Sometimes going to Yahoo & pasting in another address from there will work sometimes - but not any anti-virus stuff.

Keep your pc switched off and call a pc repair man out. They charge a very small fee and will completely remove the virus or reformat your pc, whatever is required.
Don't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.

        Re: Computer Problems

Thanks for your concern folks. We finally managed to get BitDefender on our computer after downloading it to a laptop. Not very easy transfering the program. We had to let it scan about 4 or 5 times before it really did it's job & started deleting items. In the finish it found several things that had got into Windows itself. (Oh for a Mac!) There is still some trace of the problem there, we will have to reformat soon, but most things work now. If you 'google' & follow the links, you still tend to get re-directed - if you paste & copy you can get the site fine. I had saved (but not opened) something from an email that had deadly viruses in it & something else that was affected badly was an offical catelogue of some car parts my husband had downloaded from the offical company site.
Apparently BitDefender has the reputation of being the best (the most effective is a Russian program that often causes conflicts - so is not recommended) at present. Though the experts are saying at present the best programs only catch 98% of nasties! We were overdue to upgrade security - hubby reckons Panda was occasionally not coming on; he had dropped back from the paid to the free version.

P.S. The last three times I have tried to post on this forum I have had to sign in before writing in my reply; then when I have tried to post, the message has come up that I am not signed in & I have had to sign in again. Does this occasionally happen, or is my computer still messing things up? It's happened both on Firefox & Explorer.

              Hi Vicki,

This one is good. Try it.

Hi, I found this great free tool -- Advanced SystemCare -- at http://www.iobit.com.

It heals and speeds up my PC in just 1 click, so that I do not have to re-install my Windows or purchase a new computer. It is the simplest way to protect, clean, repair, and optimize my PC. I also find that it can scan and fix what other tools miss. I really like it and best of all, it is completely free. They do not insert adware to your PC and they do not spy on you. Advanced SystemCare has received very positive reviews from publications such as Forbes, CNET and PC Magazine. It will keep your PC error-free and running smoother than ever. You can download it for free at
