    Front page to phpbb forum?

I have published my front page twice. It is in internet space somewhere because I have no idea where it went but it says it was published or successful.

How do I publish it in front of my phpbb forum where I want it?

    Back to the tutorials,I guess.

A little more information might help here. What exactly do you want to do? Is your forum a part of your website, or is it your website entirely?

If it's the latter, how is it set up? Do you have the forum files in your public_html directory root, or are they in a sub directory?

To do what I think you are wanting to do, the forum files should be in a sub directory on the domain.

An example. One of our sites, the DOB Members Club, is designed solely as a forum, but we wanted to be able to add a customized front page to it. So, we put the forum into a sub directory called 'access'.

By doing things this way, we can add a customized front page to http://dobmembersclub.com and visitors can then choose to visit the forum at http://dobmembersclub.com/access

Bottom line, the html page you want your visitors to first see can't be in the same directory as the forum files, unless you're prepared to do some heavy editing to the php files.

That's exactly how I want to do it, as the DOB members Club. The files are as downlowded via Fantacico.I have done nothing different with the files, than they came.

Is there a link with step 1 through 10 for doing this?Maybe a tutorial or is it just simple? What area of the control panel do I start or is it through an FTP manager.

Thank you for your reply and any links or instrctions would be appreciated for me to accomplish this feat.

It's really very simple. I assume you're using BlueVoda to build the index page you want, and with that in mind, here's all you need to know.

(First, just to avoid any problems, go to Fantastico and uninstall the phpBB you've already installed - we'll make a new one soon.)

Build your page (I know, you've already done this, but it might help others) in BV and save it as index - just like that, no caps, no file extension, just index. (File > Save As > index)

Now, click 'Publish' on the upper BV toolbar and use the username, password and IP address provided to you in your Welcome Email from VodaHost. By default, you will be publishing directly to your public_html folder which, based on what you've told me, is where you want to publish.

Once published, anyone going to http://yoursite.com will see the page.

Now you need to create your forum directory. Go back to Fantastico and install a new phpBB forum. During the install process, you're asked to choose the name of the directory into which you want to install. This can be named anything you wish and Fantastico will create it for you. I'll assume you just called it 'forum'.

Now you have a site structure in place; we've discussed what will happen when a visitor goes to yoursite.com, and the next step is to get them to yoursite.com/forum which is where your forum files now reside.

On the index page, you will need a link to the forum. The link needs to be (altering it all to suit your site's needs) http://yoursite.com/forum

If you're not sure how to create links, you should visit the tutorial here: http://www.vodahost.com/vodatalk/hyp...mages-etc.html

Once that's done, you're ready to customize your forum and welcome your visitors.

If you feel that your intentions are more complex than what I've explained here, post back and we'll clear it up.

Re: Front page to phpbb forum?

            Thank You!!
Very informative and a step by step procedure that I can even do,I think.I now have to get serious on a front page that I want to use, which I have not done other than playing around.I have spent my time learning to install styles and smilies onto the phpbb forum and setting it up and need only to learn the update of a phpbb forum once they update from the 2.0.22 version in the future.

Back to the drawing board on a home page design of the outdoors hunting theme of some sort.

Thank you for your very good step by step explanation. As Arnold said..I'll be back!!!
