We Could All Learn From This Man .....

We Could All Learn From This Man.........

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO, HE IS THE MARICOPACOUNTYSHERIFF ( ARIZONA ) AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

These are some of the reasons why:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio created the "tent city jail" to save Arizona from spending tens of million of dollars on another expensive prison complex.

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He banned smoking and porno magazines in the jails, and took away their weightlifting equipment and cut off all but "G" movies. He says: "they're in jail to pay a debt to society not to build muscles so they can assault innocent people when they leave."

He started chain gangs to use the inmates to do free work on county and city projects and save taxpayer's money.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again but only allows the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied: "so these morons will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs."

He cut off coffee because it has zero nutritional value and is therefore a waste of taxpayer money. When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He also bought the New Gingrich lecture series on US history that he pipes into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series that actually tells the truth for a change would be welcome and that it might even explain why 95% of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record for June 2nd), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed- wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing pink boxer shorts were chatting in the tents, where temperatures reached 128 degrees. "This is hell. It feels like we live in a furnace," said Ernesto Gonzales, an inmate for 2 years with 10 more to go. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, who makes his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. "Criminals should be punished for their crimes -not live in luxury until it's time for parole, only to go out and commitmore crimes so they can come back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things many taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves."

Wednesday he told all the inmates who were complaining of the heat in the tents: "It's between 120 to 130 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to walk all day in the sun, wearing full battle gear and get shot at, and they have not committed any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff! If all prisons were like yours there would be a lot less crime and we would not be in the current position of running out of prison spaces.

I think the UK goverment should take a few pointers from this guy.

The weather in the UK isnt exactly "warm", so instead I think the central heating in prisons should be switched off.
But in reality the UK goverment is a bit pathetic and we are a nation of people who are timid and solve problems with a first class stamp and a stiff letter.

I think all jails should follow this example, maybe then we could actually make a dent in the rampid crime in the world today. I also think we should do a total revamp of the whole legal system, trials and sentensing should not go on for eternity, the endless appeals should be limited to one, death row should be short term housing no more than a week (then pull the switch, the victims didn't get mercy why should the murderes) and everyone should be judged by the same standards reguardless of wealth and fame.

Being a single mother after a messy divorce long time ago, I didn't own a TV, let alone a gym fully equipped or any other luxury, but the inmates in the ole USA felt they deserved and demanded and received these luxuries daily. That is not only wrong but not fair to the ones like myself footing the bill. Thank the Lord or whoever your "god" is that I am much better off now, but it still bites my behind that their medical and dental services outshine my feeble pockets. :(

The legal system allows some room for error, being switch happy isn't great for people who might be trying to prove they are actually innocent. Hey, it happens.

Cathrn has very good point. I do not advocate rushing the death row inmates to their demise. They should have every opportunity to prove their innocence. My beef is the luxuries in prison that the average joe does not have or can afford.

How about the inmate in Texas who was proved innocent after 20+ years...how does your week figure into that one? And they still have 400+ cases to review. By your standards, an innocent man would have been put to death for a crime he did not commit...making the judge, jury, and executioner all guilty of murder!

When you say 'innocent' do you mean 'Innocent' or do you mean that these stupid new laws that keep coming out giving criminals too many rights and his innocence is just born out of some loophole in the system that means 'guilty' can't be 100% proven or because a criminals 'rights' were 'abused' ?

              OJ comes to mind......

I would welcome this Sheriff guy into our country no problem.

                Hi Ramsey,

It was a black guy in prison in Texas who was convicted on rape murder charge with court appointed attorney. There was a review and DNA evidence completely cleared him of the crime. But the review came after two decades of him being in prison for this crime he did not commit. He should have been out on parole, but he refused to show remorse (still claiming his innocence) and the parole board denied him parole. Two criminal attorneys knew from the day he was convicted that he was innocent, but they were legally unable to help him prove his innocence (attorney/client privilege). Really sad case. The real criminal continued to commit several heinous crimes before he was caught and convicted on different charges (he was never charged with the rape murder).

I agree with too many rights for criminals and the victims have no rights to speak of. But I also believe that every person should have the right to have forensic evidence examined and entered into evidence. The way it is now, only people who can afford independent forensic tests are the ones who have that "luxury" to prove their innocence or create reasonable doubt.

Sorry about opening the "can of worms". Hope everyone is having a good day! :)

P.S. Every prison in USA should have this kind of warden!

                  Hi Karen,

I am sure many innocent people are served incorrect justice and this is truly sad.

I think we need to toughen up on both sides.

Ensure cases are truly heard and ALL evidence presented to try to prevent miscarriages of justice. But on the other hand ... let's take away ALL privilages for those who are 100% guilty of all types of criminal activities. They should be treated like pigs!

I live in Arizona and while Sheriff Joe's 'tough on crime' stance is admirable he is not without his faults. The real reason he continues to be re-elected is because he is a publicity hound.

Illegal immigrants in border states such as ours, of course, have become a huge problem and a very hot political topic in the US and recently the good sheriff has his deputies stopping every hispanic they come across and running them through the wringer.

Although I do not believe illegals should be in the country, period, racial profiling is the greater wrong. The belief that the end justifies the means as Arpaio's actions seem to demonstrate is morally wrong and, historically, a sign of power drunkenness.

Scary. There is no simple answer. Can't we all just be honest and like each other? I know, in my dreams. No coffee in the morning would be a crime deterrent for me.
