I think ive got black fly or summat on me clematis cos some of the leaves are speckled with black patches ....any ideas Amanda?

How's it look apart from that? Is it wilting? It could just be mould. Do you know what type of Clematis it is? If you don't - describe the flowers and leaves to me.... My books are all packed away, I'll try and dig them out later and have a look for you.

No its not wilting ..its got big purple star shaped flowers on it ....its mostly on the climbers that have grown away from the main plant ...if you know what i mean lol

I did a Google search for you and found this:

Some clematis types(especially the type 2 pruning group)this is very common. After the clematis blooms the lower leaves turn brown and dry up. I think it is in the genes. It is not a *******. It does look unsightly though. I just pick the dead leaves off if it looks too bad.

Hope that puts your mind at rest.
