    Re: Fuel Prices ...

Here in Kiwiland, everyone complains about fuel prices - now $NZ1.70 litre - I guess we won't have to walk soon!! I'm glad I don't have to drive around the UK!!! - and some other places!!! My 1994 Mitzi Chariot is pretty old but I keep it well tuned and it isn't expensive to run. Still too many people driving 4WD off-road vehicles around town! I have no pity for them - those vehicles should be banned in the city!!

        Re: Fuel Prices ...

Its funny that the carpenter I was just working with a few hours ago is from NZ was saying that to just live in NZ is quite cheap, but if you have any vices like driving/drinking/smoking it will soon eat the rest of your wage packet.
But whilst we are having a rant on prices @ £00.99, the petrol prices are just a small part of the charges for living in London (UK) If you want to park in the centre of London, the average car park is £35.00 per day + the London congestion charge of £8.00 per day, which they are trying to increase to £25.00 per day for engines over 2000cc. And if you were unlucky & got towed away for illegal parking, you can add another £200.00 in charges. I work as an electrician & before I even leave my home I have to tell the customer that lives in the centre of London that there is a £50.00 per day charge on top of labour & materials just to come & see them. Its no wonder so many Brits are leaving the country & must admit I cant wait to join them. Now I have had my little tantrum, do some of you feel better about where you live & what you have to pay??

        Cheers all,

        Chris.

I think Vodahost team should start a World political fuel party called Vodafuel. Seems quite appropriate that Voda means water & they have been experimenting with water based fuels (hydrogen fuel cells) for years now. You would already have thousands of supporters from this forum.

          Chris.
          PS. www.vodafuel.com is avalible ?

Thanks goodness I live in New Zealand!!! I won't ever again be in London to experience what you describe, Chris. Living in NZ is cheap, as your carpenter friend says, and I don't really think that those vices he mentions cost as much as many other places - especially London. Smoking is probably the most expensive, and why not?! I'd sooner pay for a dram here than in London! What does a large dram cost in an average bar there? A bottle costs about $NZ38-40 - better in NZ$ than in GBP I think?! Doesn't a bottle cost about that in GBP?
There are quite a few vehicles running on recycled cooking oil here! It's pretty successful! One day it might be cheaper to fill up with Vodka!!!! - I make my own - that's really cheap!!

Some of the farmers in my area are using the home-made biodiesel. I have never heard of vehicles that run off of cooking oil. I do however think its a good idea. Learn something new everyday!

Been around for over 40 years.....
Filling up is as easy as stopping in at McDonalds, your local Chinese Take-Out, or running to the pantry for some vegetable oil!!

And....the US just relaxed the laws on home-distilleries to acommodate those "licensed" to brew ethanol as fuel. The conversion of your present cars is limited to a handful of engine models, and at most is under $900. The still will set you back about $1800, though! (What's up with that?) Only certain companies are allowed to supply you with an "approved distillery".....fancy that!
And NO, I'm not a know it all...it was just on the History Channel, so there!

And why, exactly, have this been swept under the rug??

                  Re: Fuel Prices ...

Vasili - a fermenter + distiller for 'home brew' here only costs a few hundred - NZ - dollars!! What a cheek to charge $US1800! Profiteering, I say!! That's about $NZ2250 - I assume it allows you to make commercial quatities. We can't sell 'home brew' here - it's only for consuming at home wih friends!!
I can use the fermenter for making wine and and one can distill any fremented 'brew' - some are better than others!
Amazing what one learns on the History channel!!
Gee!!! - I've been promoted again!!!
                  Cheers - Lorna

Here is a link to supermarket in the UK that is usually quite reasonable on their prices for drink.
                    http://www.waitrosewine.com/Spirits/Spirits/Category.aspx

As for Cigs Marlboro lights average about £5.35 for a pack of 20 in the UK. But with the new EU rules on being able to bring a lot more of this type of thing into the country from when you have been on holiday, (i.e. duty free) everyone comes back with loads & then sells them at about £33.00 per 200. You can pay for a Holiday for a family & 2 children just by bringing back enough cigs. In Spain I believe there about £18.00 per 200. so per carton You make £15.00 per carton & if all are over 16 years of age . 10 cartons each = £600.00. Its legal & would help most family’s. The down side is the moral issue with cigs.
Just as a last note. Dose anyone know why governments cant be taken to court for dealing with drugs, (ie cigs). If you can put a dealer away for many years for dealing in weed, why can’t the government be treated the same way for their immoral earnings with cigs. ????
Right! After that I’m of for a coffee & a cig.

                    Cheers,

                    Chris.

Another reason I miss not living in Florida! (Will be again soon, though) And the cigars are fresh too!
Example: My favorite cigar in Tampa $4 each for a fresh one, and $11 for a dry old stick of leaf here in California. A pack of Benson & Hedges in FL is about $4, and $6.50 in CA (NY it's now close to $8 and a different/special blend: they are required to not have additives to keep them burning, so less fires in bed, etc.).
Whatever. I'm waiting for the day we are required to return to horse & buggy or only biofuels, and licenses for the internet and implant cell phones (try switching carriers now, dummy!).

Ouch! I thought you went independent from us in the UK. Must be some of our old politicians left there still collecting taxes. Sorry! Please send them back via a galley sailing ship & we will put them in the stock's for some ironic justice.

Sounds like a mighty dandy idea mate.. but hey, since we are using the ship anyway, can we put all of them bloody politicians, old and new on the ship?.. I reckon they, as well as we, are all better off with bastards in the stock's.

Hi Chris - thanks for that interesting web site. The GBP is about $NZ3 so some stuff is definitely more expensive and a few are about the same. I's have to be pretty hard up to import cigarettes - I won't touch them - I try to get people off them. I've seen what the big 'C' does to people. I agree with whoever said that politicians should be put aboard a leaky boat and sent somewhere!! I won't get off topic by getting into politics!:>)
