    Doctors and Guns

    Doctors:
A- The number of doctors in the USA is 700,000
B- Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000
C- Accidental deaths per physician is 17.14
Statistics courtesy of the US Dept. of Health & Human Services

    Guns:
A- The number of gun owners in the US is 80,000,000 Yes, that's 80 million!
B- The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups is 1,500.
C- The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.001875

    Statistics courtesy of the FBI

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners. Remember, guns don't kill people, doctors do.

    FACT:
NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS A DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We should ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!

Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.

I'll reload before I take my medicine anyday.....

(or is that what the medicine was for anyway?? I dunno....does it really matter, what with Global Warming??)

        LOL

PS: You're math is wrong - should be 0.1714285 per doctor (approx. 1/7th)....and add 2 zeros to the guns: 0.0000187

Something to share with them then. I am sure that the stats for doctors in Jamaica are way below.

Yeah medicine is different here and my Bro-in-law in the states trained in India, Jamaica and the Netherlands and is a really exceptional Gastroenterologist. I think in the states alot of unneccessary tests are done and doctors have come to rely soley on machines to diagnose instead of the human factor.
My Dad can diagnose the same thing a machine does and so accurately that it amazes me at times. I know because he did it with a friend of mine in the states who needed advice and it took her sveral weeks to gett he results that Dad gave her in a few minutes. She had already done the test before talking to him.

Sorry ...my soap box again...but I'm very proud of my Dad and other realtives in the profession...although I do understand where those stats ae coming from.

I used to work for a firm of engineers who'se job it was to fault find and repair medical machinary such as ECG readers and XRay machines.

You are right about the medical profession relying too much on technology, our engineers were paid more than your average practitioner and suffered waaay more pressure.

Very true, doctors in other countries tned to be more clinical and rely less on electronics. Interesting.

Awwww..thanks guys...both Kate and Sharon...Dad's getting near to retiring and fiddling with his electronics...he's a gadget junkie...lol

They don't do a lot of stem cell over here unfortunatley ...a lot more of the tropical medicine...and we have a high diabetic population so it's one Dad deals with constantly. These days a lot of his older patients just come in so they can chat with someone who will listen cause everyone at home is too busy...it makes me sad. SO Dad will spend extra time with them...even if it means making others wait a bit...lol....

I told my nephew that if he wnats to be a doctor it better be because he cares about people not money. He's still undecided...lol
