    IP address & SSL certificate

Am trying to sign up to Voda host and it asked if I wanted to pay extra for a designated IP address? What exactly does this mean? Also wanted to know if I wanted to pay $99 for a SSL certificate? What is this? And do we need this?

    Thanks,
    Ralph

Re: IP address & SSL certificate

No, if you don't know what they are, you don't need them. Should you need them later on, you can purchase them at a second time. (SSL Standard Socket Layer) cerificate: it encrypts comunication between your server and your visitor, usefull for securing delicate data (credit card numbers) on e-commerce sites.
IP address: a dedicated IP address is all yours, you don't share it with the other people on the same server. If your traffic becomes large, you would consider it.
