Password protecting my website

Rather than publishing my website for the world to see I would like limit access to those with a password only. If this is possible, how is it done?

I would also like to know if it possible to password protect certain links/pages within the website itself?

You can password protect folders (directories) and all the pages inside the folders
will be protected...Please click the below and look in the control panel tutorials...
