One other point if I may. get rid of Google Ads!!!! You want to sell your product- not give them an immediate alternative. In my opinion- the google ads cheapen the site.

Thanks Beth. Reinforcing Karen's points, and putting some of them another way, helps with appreciating their importance.

        Hi Andy,
I actually agree with you about cheapening the site, in my case. i.e. I am trying to promote an exclusive product.
I have earned $7.37 in four months for 39 clicks.
I suppose that says a lot.

            Hi Karen,
I have made some small changes to the home page, mainly changing the footer text links. Changing these links to say something as opposed to just pointing somewhere.
I am starting to see what you mean about changing the home page to have the content of the products page.
            Thanks again

Your're welcome. As much as we'd like to be just artistic and get search results, its not a reality, unless you are willing to pay for those results. Why not get both? Pay a little until the FREE ones come in.

                Hey Royden,

Just a bit of advice. I'd NEVER buy from a site that doesn't list prices. Having to send an e-mail to get a prices really annoys me, I want to know immediately.

You should also include pictures of every item you are selling and a method of payment. You need to grab people right then and there, if you give them time, like having to send an e-mail, they will lose interest.

Why didn't you post these on your site? Just curious.

                  Thanks Terri,
You are right. I just never got around to it We all need a jolt, or k.i.t.a sometimes to get us moving. My only excuse is that setting up an on-line shop is a new learning curve. Feeble excuse really.

Re: What? No sales after 6 months

Roydon... You have a very professional, well designed, and classy website. I spent some time there wandering around for a good look.

I'm curious about this as well... while a website is certainly 'out there' for a bazillion eyes to peruse, are you targeting your audience? I know a world class artist here in Albuquerque, New Mexico who works primarily in religious stained glass and sculptures. Talk about pricey. This person has a small but classy website and markets to only Catholic churches around the country. Other than acting as a tool to attract potential buyers (church committees considering liturgical art themes), I don't think the site has generated a single sale in and of itself. What she had to do was go out, business card in hand (site is on the card) and press the flesh... or she mailed promotional material when at a distance... with the site referenced. Over time the word was passed from bishop to bishop, foundry to foundry, client to client. Now the stuff is installed all over the world.

No need to go on about it... but perhaps it might be a good idea to develop some networking contacts for live 1-1 conversation... or hit the phone books with some cold calling, and use the website as very high class promotional support. You were wondering about that yourself and I think it would be a good move.

I may lean a bit differently here regarding the pricing issue. Heavy weight, specialized products do not necessarily benefit from pricing detail on a website. The target audience is way too small. Most often they want to see it in three dimensions. The message under the header: "Call for pricing information"... or something along those lines, lets people know they are not at Wal Mart. You are selling unique objects d'art, not candlesticks and lamps... if you catch my drift. Speaking directly with someone humanizes the experience for them when you are talking about separating a large chunk of change from their bank account.

Ok, I'm not the move it twenty pixels to the left kind of guy. You'll get better technical advice from the technical pro's who visit here. I tend to look at sites as a snapshot of personal intent... and they either feel right, right organization, right content, right ambiance and attitude... or they don't... or they fall somewhere inbetween. Yours strikes me as being right on the mark.

If you would like to make contact with that artist send me an e, and you can talk shop with someone who does 'it' for a living... just like you.

                    Best Wishes,

                    Poppi

                      Hi Poppi,
Thanks so much for taking the time to tour my website, and for spending quite a bit of time in replying. Every viewpoint helps, and yours is certainly a well reasoned one. And thank for the good words about my site.
I will mail you about contacting the artist.

                          Hi,

Mine are exclusive Alpaca knitwear products tagetet to very specific customers. Prices aren't unexpensive either.

What has worked very well for me even thought I am not quite finished with my web site is to participate in trade fairs directed both to professional shoppers and direct customers.

                          Good luck!

Aloha, I liked what Poppi said about the prices. If you are not going to list them, at least say that they can call for the price. It would be great if you had an 800 #. I just started a website and am getting ready to market it, or going to pay someone to market it. I had to go back to work to do this. It costs money to make money and until the site can make enough to support itself, I will have to work. With anything, it depends how serious you are about succeeding. Is what you are doing a hobby or a business? I am in it for material gain and to help people have a great time on a tropical island. This my retirement plan. Good luck to you and just keeping working it one day at a time.

It really is good for me to read comments from different helpful people. I have a full time job, so I don't devote enough time to my products.

Yes there aren't too many models, and you have made me realise that I need to get off my bum and make the others that I have in mind.

Trade shows is something that I have realised I must get into. I have been putting this off for too long.

You make very good points, which put in another way, means - formulate the plan, and stay focussed and on course.
