Thanks earnings! I have a very long way to go but the meat of it will be up within the next day or two.
I heard that putting 'Under Construction' notices on your site was a bad thing.... Can't remember where I heard it and why it is supposed to be bad though.
Of course those two pages are ones that need major overhall. I am going to be putting the BV form builder on them. I have half the site in SohoLaunch and half in BV but it will be 100% BV soon.
The errors will be gone soon and then I will submit for everyone's scrutiny... eek!
The professionalism is truly on the page now! However, I did notice that your menu is made up in a fashion that makes it hard to even click on the "main" button. You've got it so you have to click the button to get the dropdown to get the button LOL - even where no drop down is needed.
Doing this is also going to hinder you with the search engines, as they don't read the drop down menus. And it's possibly going to frustrate people who click on the menu - say for the home page - and have already taken their hand from the mouse, then discover that click won't take them anywhere.
I do like some dropdown menu's but am very careful how and where I use them. If you want to keep this, I suggest you put text links to ALL your pages in a footer that you put on every page. That way at least the search engines will be able to spider everything easily - which might not happen now.
Another option is to make all the top pages clickable also. So, for example, you would actually HAVE a resources page. And on the resources page, you would have links to all the resources. This would make some pages two clicks away, but they are already that - and these would then be read by the search engines and spidered.
Good luck.
Dori, I avoid under construction pages - but they can be done - just more carefully - I suggest that you have pages published so no one gets the errors - have the navigation, etc in place, then have a text of paragraph about what the page is about and to come back soon to see it completed.
Also, have the page titles, and meta description in place already. Yes, you can change them later - but it will get them spidered and se's don't like 404's either.
Quote: "Well, while I am not certain that 5 people make a majority..."
5 out of 5 people reporting the same thing on a thread is most certainly a majority.....
Quote: "just not sure I am willing to leave the platform open."
Why use your business site as a platform for anythng other than your business?
Quote: "Fact is maybe people need to put the greater good ahead of short term profits..." Your business is trying to help people make those profits. Your potential customers aren't concerned about "the Greater Good". They are concerned about themselves. If you don't understand this then you should seek anther line of work.
Quote: "I am not made of money, but I do have my principles...." you had a banner on your site endorsing a candidate that represents your principles, yet you don't want anyone to mention god in front of you because their principles make you uncomfortable?...So what you are saying is, it is OK for you to say and express your views, but your potential clients shouldn't because you might get uncomfortable?
Quote: "Thank you for the polite and consice example..." You are welcome. I always try at least bring a bit of common sense into the show!
Quote: I must say that as I travel between clients I am often put off and made to feel extremely uncompfortable when potential clients play the "god" card."
This isn't really the place for a discussion about this but.....If you are in sales and financial planning, don't things like rejection, differences of culture (of which religion can be), and some language barriers come into play? You really need thicker skin man if you are going to be doing sales...somebody mentions "the God Card" and you get all uncomfortable???? You are that easily shaken and uncomfortable about someones own religious views???? Yet you are OK with placing very polarizing political figure endorsements on your site??? and you do sales??? and yet you say you are concerned about "The common good"??? OK Fidel...
The last time I heard this was still the USA and people have the freedom to say what they want to...You, my good man, do not have the right to NOT be offended. It doesn't say anywhere in our constitution or our Bill of Rights that you have the right to never be offended or uncomfortable. Your clients however, just like you do, have the freedom to say whatever you like (just like I am doing here)
I don't know if you run appointments at people's homes or have them go to an office somewhere but I do BOTH. Let me tell you about "Uncomfortable"
I showed up for an appointment and the mom and daughter of a family were walking around nude! They forgot to mention to me on the phone that they were nudists. I didn't see the sign next to the door that said "If you are uncomfortable with nudity, please ring the bell and we will put our clothes on" That is a bit uncomfortable but I wasn't about to go into someone elses home and tell them how to live. I am by no means a prude at all. I have lived the stereo typical rock and roll lifestyle but trying to talk about insurance with a naked mom and daughter was pretty damn distracting and a bit uncomfortable.
What about dealing with gay people? That could also be uncomfortable for you....or how about people that don't speak very good English? WOW, hard to do business with someone if you can't understand them very well....What about people that fought in wars at any time in our country's history?..Maybe they had to hold a gun too! WOW that could be uncomfortable...Maybe they are a twin and you can't tell them apart from their sibling..that would be uncomfortable...
Why don't you do this, if you have an office just place a sign up where clients can easily see it that says "Please refrain from any religous speak while in our office. Any reference to God makes us extremely uncomfortable."
Or, if you run appointments outside of an office, make it part of your screening process. You basically should be interviewing your potential customers to see if your services will fit their needs, why not ask them if they believe in God as part of that process? If they say they do, then just tell them that you really want them to refrain from any reference to God as you don't believe in God and you might get uncomfortable....." See how well that goes over...Why don't you interview all of your clients like you would interview a potential wife?...Only take the ones that would be a good fit for you and never make you extremely uncomfortable. Or you could only take clients that support your political views...Man the potential client pool just keeps getting smaller and smaller......
A recent poll showed that 92% of Americans believe in God (see HERE ) and if you decide you don't want to business with them, it is going to be very hard to make a living only dealing with people you like.
I am pushing the envelope here to show you how incredibly absurd your statement is. You really do need thicker skin. Just like in my Dixie Chix example, your potential customers will vote with their wallets. People do business with people they like and people they trust. You not wishing to hear about someone elses principles (re. god) while you express your own (re. political Democrat guy) will make you a very broke financial planner...that is of course you get all of your clients from the DNC where they all think like you do.
If you can be that picky about your clients then more power to you.
OK...I forgot to mention..Your site does appear much cooler now without the landing page. I actually enjoy the audio playing on the home page.
I had my identity stolen a few years ago and these types of services weren't readily available. Pretty cool that they are now. The thieves that got me took $18K out of my bank account, forged false SSI claims and tried to move and steal my investments....That is not a fun thing at all!

Sorry to hear about your difficulty with the ID theft. Regarding this thread. I am not sure how this became so personal and to be honest what many are reading as thin skin is actualy just sheer amazement that what was a simple request for feedback took such a dramatic detour. I don't know any of you and you don't know much more than what you can decipher from this thread and my site. That being said, please note that the advice given was not only taken in, but applied in every way. If that does not indicate that I can see and admitt my short-comings I am not sure what would.
I took issue with one person and one person only, I did not and do not feel his approach was polite or justified. Ultimiatley how I conduct my business or my level of succes or failure is really not of real importance. I do know that I hope to see more success based on this site.
I re-read the thread and can't help but conclude that everything said was proper, not personal, and even by giving examples was attempt to offer perspective?
The one person that pointed out the most important technical issues clearly and with more than the usual explanation was NOT in an way whatsoever being rude Pete. I even see that you have acted on those suggestions offered to you, this is a good thing ... this is what putting your site on review is for ... it's never personal, please don't take it this way ... not even now should this be taken personal ...
Voda is a wonderful place where opinions and knowledge is wealthy - let's hope it always remains this way ... I hope you understand.
Your site is looking great, I see you have been busy. Keep up the good work .... sincerely!

QUOTE: "Ultimiatley how I conduct my business or my level of succes or failure is really not of real importance. Their success does in large part depend on YOUR success. As a financial planner, advisor, banker or insurance agent, there is no margin for error. People are trusting you with everything they own...the savings, assets, inversments and their health. It is not to be taken lightly or casually and that makes all of it the utmost important.
Sorry if you took my responses personally but I was indeed trying to show some prespective based on your replies on this thread. Sometimes I have a tendency to get a bit long winded in my explanations but hopefully the points I made still get across.
Your site looks good and I can see that you have been at work and have seriously taken the advice given. Good for you! This forum is HUGE with information, perspective and help and even though you sort of got run through the ringer on this thread, I believe that nobody here means you any ill will...me included. Sometimes tough love is just exactly that.....tough....
LadyEye, Bethers, Vasili and others are always very willing to give people whatever help they can. Anyone would a fool to not give serious consideration to any suggestions they make. If you take any of their input (or mine) as personal at all, you seriously run the risk of completely missing the points. I didn't see any personal attacks on any of the threads you started. Try to keep your emotions ot of it and absorb the huge wealth of knowledge that will come flowing to you when you need it. That is what makes this place so AWESOME!

People... move on, please.
All I wanted to know was how my website was recieved. Somehow, I ended up hearing about "thin skinned nudists who have signs about not liking god hanging in their make-believe offices".
Point in case: Trump v. O'Donnell... controversy sells... maybe I will put that political banner back up! lmfao! (ouch, maybe I broke a rule there!)
hi there
well i thought that your site was informative and well explained and i really like to audio voice sounds great really clear and normally i would go straigh to turn off sound but this time iactually wanted to listen i think that after all has been said you are doing a good job keep it up
take a look at mine and see what you think my first attempt ever at a website it was fun making it
James,
Thanks for your comment! Glad you like the audio. We had to shorten it from the first run and I still would like to trim it by about 10 seconds.
Regarding your site: Are you the one and the same person or did you jusr happen to build a site for a person nemed James?
I thought the site was well done and most assuredly sets a "evening of entertainment mood".
I did notice some errors in capitalization and word placement on the following page:
In all the "political" talk going on - I'm not sure if you caught my post about your nav bar. Only reason I'm bringing it up again - is that you really don't want anything any more difficult than necessary - for your customers or bots - to see the other pages.
I'm also getting a red x for one of your pics today.

I too am getting a few red x's. I did take note of your comments of the nav bar. I have tried multiple issues and ultimately unless someone can tell me other wise I had to go with an iframed page for my navbar, due to my constant need to update links. My understanding is that that is the drop down menu is the only tool BV provides that will project into a new page when the drop down is activated. I don't really like the "buttons" either, but I had to make due.
Please note: I have about "zero" experience previous to this project so if you know something I don't let me know.
