  • Check out my new website

G'day! This is my first attempt at making a website. It has been online now for nearly 3 months. I don't consider it finished yet. I would really appreciate some feedback on it. What do you like? What don't you like? What could I do better? What should I add and what should go? Don't be shy I can take advice. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Enjoy your day - it's a gift from God you know.

    Don't forget the address
    http://www.outbackjack.info/

The site looks good at first glance and full of info and pics. All the menu buttons and links seem to work.
The site counter (which isnt necessary) doesn't work in Firefox but it works in IE6.

      Hi Outback Jackie,

Welcome from a fellow South Australian ... I notice your link home on the about us page is not working ... what a lot of work you have put into your site and it is looking fantastic and it is a great showcase for our incredible Australian outback ....

One of the things I find for getting traffic is setting up the metatags well for search engines to pick up ... as well as putting in a good description ... you can find these by right clicking on an empty space and click on page properties ... another thing that helps is linking with others ...

Hope to see you around a lot more ... good luck with what you are achieving ....

        hi! Jackie,
        the link for :

        New pictures Kids Colour in
        Outback Colours Art Gallery

        has an error.
I think you mistype a comma instead of dot.info

however, i would like to learn from you,
how did you make the screen change slowly?
what software do you use to build this site?

        if you can advise me?

        cheers,

I used only Blue Voda to make the site. I made all the templates myself using mainly drop and drag from Blue Voda. Some headers were made on Adobe photoshop by myself. On Page Properties you get the page transition edit options. I will go recitfy the link this week as time permits thanks so much for the comments.

hello to South aussie mate. Have you been to Quorn? I will get to this faulty link soon. I have a couple of links to sacentral.gov. One link to Flinders Secrets and a couple of sister christian sites. I also use Telstra bigblog as a link source and traffic generator. My blog carries same name as site outbackjack. Thanks for your tips. By the way I tried traffic swarm as a traffic getter but couldn't stand using the site myself after a while too money orientated.

Can you tell me why the site counter is not necessary? I have been using it to determine page usage, and which back links to other sites are giving the most traffic. Is there another way of doing this that I don't know about?

Re: Check out my new website

Beautiful work, Outback, looks like you put a lot of time and thought into your pages. I've got a question for you, how did you get Google Ads to come up the way it did, neatly on the right side of page? With my webpage, it comes up under my banner, "Where's Your Life Taking You?" then fades into background where my banner covers it. I'm certain I did something wrong but not knowing that much about webpage creating, would you be so kind as to teach me how it's done? Mine is a first attempt in creating a webpage, just like yours is. So, from one 'newbie to another' I appreciate your instruction.

I used insert - advanced - html this gives a html box which you can drop and drag to any place you want. double click on it, text box appears, then right mouse click and paste html code from google. Save and then lock the html box in place. You do this by right click on box and select lock. By the way I don't use blue voda templates to make my pages. I start with a blank page and add my elements one by one. It takes longer but I wanted something that was my own creation. I make some of the head banners on adombe photoshop. I can do all this and I truley am a novice, I hardly understand photoshop let alone webstuff. That is what I like about B.V you can really make it yours with the drop and drag functions.
                      Does this help?

Is that all there is to it? WOW, sounds simple. I must have read Google's instructions wrong, I thought they said to place the code between the header and body and thats probably why they're coming under my banner instead.

Do you also get to control what ads go on your site, and do the ads change regularly or do you have to tell it to change?

When you set up your google ads you can choose to have them content sensitive. That is they match adds to your sites content. If you have a site that is business orientated you can also choose to filter out the competition. I picked content sensitive and marked it as a family site. However occaisionally adds come up that I don't like. For example I have issues with "The Secret" which was advertised on Oprah. It is new age and I don't support it. But I have no control of it comming up because it is not listed as my opposition. So I have put a disclaimer on my site about it if it turns up. The adds do change from time to time. Especially when I am re-publishing a page, it tends to set new adds.

By the way the only html code that I add to the page html are the suggested codes that Blue Voda sends. For example the 'no cache' html they emailed me about I put that inbetween the head tag etc.

All other html for affiliates, advertising, weather feeds etc go into the insert advanced html box. Have a great day. It feels funny giving advice because only 2 months ago I felt way out of my depth with this stuff, but Blue Voda software is so friendly even I can learn and now pass on.
