It does not depend on Vodahost but on the Irish State. They don't allow domain name registration outside Ireland.

If I understand it correctly, you can still purchase that domain name and point the servers here - so you'd have an .ie address. Many countries have strict rules on who can purchase their domain names and want to keep it controlled.

so i went to get a .ie address and they cost a Fortune!! i wanted a .com one but its taken, aahh
