Using the redirect button

1. If I use the redirect button in the cpanel to move a website to another domain, is that the same thing as a 301 redirect? I'm asking because I've read that only a 301 redirect will preserve page rank and I want to make sure I do this right.

2. Are there any problems with permanently redirecting your main domain to an addon domain?
