  • Redirects - Syntax error

I noticed this morning that some of my redirects created in CP -Redirects were not working. They do show up in CP Redirects and looked fine to me. I did not find them in htaccess file.

For example, I was tryng to redirect http://www.thegoofygiftshop.com/ex-boyfriend_gum.html to

So I deleted that entry and tried to add it again but I get this message:
"Apache detected an error in the Rewrite config.

Syntax error on line 704 of /home/uyuldura/public_html/.htaccess.bvzj9CIkjfjN5NGDXuRMWK1DhxBj0eI3:
ErrorDocument takes two arguments, Change responses for HTTP errors

    Please try again."

So I take it that something is wrong with my Error Page? I just can't figure out what could be wrong that would affect some of the pages but not all.

And I do not know how to find line 704 in my htaccess because in Wordpad there are not that many lines. Of course, I probably wouldn't know what to do if I found line 704.

What does this error message mean? and how do I correct it so I can add the redirects? and does this affect my error page in any way?
    Thanks

    Re: Redirects - Syntax error

    dont use wordpad. Use notepad

If you did the redirect in cpanel you will first have to remove it. Then you can do a line by line.

Oops, it was notepad I was using.

I found it in Redirects and did remove it by deleting it It no longer shows in Redirects. And when I try it add it again is when I get that error message.
I'm not following you on the line by line? Is that the same as adding each redirect via the CPanel?

      Thanks

        Re: Redirects - Syntax error

I believe I solved it! The very last line in my .htaccess was
        ErrorDocument 404 / Error Page

So I deleted that and now I can enter my redirects. And they redirected.

I think I remember something about adding that but I don't remember why I did it. Believe I read - or misread -it here in the forum

        Thanks
