I stumped with Webamil and messed up in downloading Squirrel

Still a lot to learn. My webmails from the cpanel are 100%ok. It's the attempt to see how I can access the emails without logging into the cpanel everytime. I've tried downloading Squirrel and Horde but I think I messed up there by initially expecting Adobe reader to open the files and now I can't get rid of that. The downloaded files keeps coming up with an adobe icon and I cannot access them at all.
How is this done (opening emails without accessing cpanel)? How do I access a downloaded file from Squirrel or Horde after messing that up?
