Can I password protect my public-html

Hi, wile I am creating my site I want to stop any accidental visitors seeing any of the site as we will be setting up payments etcetera.
When I go into password protect area in c-panel I cant find public-html in any of the folders, or have I got this wrong ??.
Can you suggest a way I can stop anyone from viewing the site for now, but with a password so we can view.

    Thanks,

    Chris.
    Regards Chris.

You cannot password protect the root directory. But you can create another directory, put all your other pages (index apart) in that directory, and password protect it.
