My client just added a new domain name to his account. I'm not sure if he's received the email from vodahost with the new account information, so are there things I can do to speed up the start up process without that email? I already have the homepage ready for publishing. How do I get the account ready to receive published files?

The new domain needs to be added, to his account through the CP, as an 'add-on' domain and the DNS need to be set correctly (through VBS).

Did you or your client receive the Welcome Email from VH? This has all log in and IP information contained on it. If you used your client's email address I would think they should have received it. Ask them to forward it to you and keep it, it really comes in handy.
