Sub Domain, Add On or Parked

If you use sub domains the site can be accessed normally (ie. www.site2.com) is that correct? I think I might be needing a parked domain for a while. Should I have the other hosting company still change servers, owners etc?? I probably won't be needing the site for several weeks. Thanks for any comments.
