    Require a .co.za domain ext

    Hiya

In a previous response it was indicated that only certain domain extentions could be transered over to Blue Voda, however when I joined Blue Voda I understood that I was able to have a south African (.co.za) extention. Please advise.

Please enlighten me as I would like an additional domain name and site however I am concerned that prospective clients would see the Dazzle address/ in their browser. Or is that hidden?

    With thanks
    Lee

You must get your Registrar in South Africa to point your DNS to the VodaHost servers as indicated in your Welcoming letter.
    I hope you come right.
    Bless you
    Tom

Can you please explian the difference, in layman terms, between:
        1. an add-on domain that is redirected and
        2. a parked domain?

        Thanks

Re: Require a .co.za domain ext

          Hi ..

Pointing your domain to voda host servers is different than redirecting a domain. As Tom says above, you must purchase your domain at your SA Domain Registrar, but you can add on this domain to your voda host website hosting account. This means that your annual registration for your .co.za domain will remain with this SA Registrar. But you can freely add on domains you own in your voda hosting account.

Once you have purchased this domain and have your registrar, or yourself, point this domain to voda servers, you can then build your website just as you did for your main domain.

Your main domain resides in the public_html directory (folder) of your voda hosting account. Every other domain that you purchase, regardless of where, would need to be added as an add on domain in your voda host account. You do so in your control panel - a folder is automatically created for you inside of your main directory - public_html

Once this is done you build and publish your website the same as your first, the only difference being where you publish to. Since a new folder was created inside of the main directory, this is where you would publish to. public_html/nameofaddondomain - you will need to manually type the name of your add on domain in the publish area when you want to publish to the add on and you will remove it when you want to publish to your main account again.

An add on domain is independent from your main domain - meaning, again it will only be the domain address that is visible in the address bar.

A redirected domain is a domain that is redirected to another domain. If you had an ***** store and sold green *****s and red *****s maybe you would have two domains - green*****s.com and red*****s.com - but you only want one website - you would create a website on green*****s.com and then for red*****s.com you would just redirect the domain only, wihtout a website on it, to green*****s.com - this means typing in either red*****s or green*****s would bring you to the very same website.

A parked domain is just simply that, one that is parked free at your domain registrar, without a website on it. You will see this around, "This page parked courtesy of Voda Host" - just means you have set this domain to be parked until you have a website on it.

It is also recommended that on your own computer - you create a file folder in MYDOCUMENTS/BLUEVODA that will store your .bvp files you create with blue voda and your images, whatever it is you use for this domain. Creating its own folder will prevent any overwriting of your existing domain files that might have the same name - example - you will need to create and publish an index page for this domain as well .. you might also have contactus as a page that will be named the same - putting them in their own folder will ensure you do not overwrite your existing ones. Just like in your controlpanel/filemanager - you will see individual folders for any and all domains that you have active or added on to your voda hosting account.

          Hope this helps.
